I realized that there are barely over 100 Jehovah’s Witnesses preaching in Bengladesh and since I am a qualified Bible teacher I would like to help out there. When I read on-line that English is the second language spoken there I realized that there might be an English community where I could preach since that is my first (my only) language. Perhaps I would only need to learn “survival Bangla” to get by and might find an American or England-based company for whom I could work (I have very good grammar in English despite my total ignorance of Bangla). I know Sesame Street has a presence there thanks to PBS. I don’t know how tolerant the political and religious climate is there or how I would ever convince my husband to go along w/ my scheme. He is also a qualified minister but is not very adventurous and has well-established roots here.
Lots of obstacles to over-come, but it is fun to dream about what-if. The alphabet is so pretty and reverent-looking. I figure that if I put forth the effort to learn a language, I’ll be able to find some use for it.
