I just joined two job hunting/career support Meetup groups. They were suggested to me via email from my sister. She’s very concerned about my lack of a network. None of the group leaders have contacted me as of yet because no activities/meetings have been planned.

One of the groups is for job hunters over the age of 40. I hope that other members of this group will be helpful to me in my job search. But I won’t know until I meet them. I hope I fit in, but I don’t have the career background of most people my age. I have never been in a supervisory/managerial position and by job history has been spotty. I feel more like someone in her late 20’s/early 30’s who is trying to make a career change.

I don’t belong to a purely social club yet. Meetup has some interesting sounding groups in NYC. These include groups dedicated to going to see live music performances, watching art house films, mythology, wiccanism/paganism, metaphysics/asian spirituality, etc. I wonder if these are good groups to join so I can meet men.

Not really making progress on this. Right now I am a member of Asian Outdoors and The Police fanclub. I also have SCA bookmarked for future reference.

The problem with Asian Outdoors is that I’m not fit to keep up with a lot of the activities. Every time I do an activity I am so unprepared in terms of skills, fitness, and equipment. I’m also way too assimilated and arty, so whenever I start talking about indie film and rock music I get blank stares.

The problem with the Police Tour fanclub is that it is virtual.

I need to find a local group that I fit in with that meets on a regular monthly basis. Besides SCA, I’ve considered joining the Appalachian Mountain Club, a drumming circle, a Buddhist meditation group, dating/social clubs, etc.

It’s lonely at work.
