Intermediate Goal: "Participate" in a 5K Race 20 months ago

Note I’m not indicating if I will be running much of that race but a nice and specific date will be handy. The Dexter-Ann Arbor Run is coming up on June 1st – like a month and a half away – and I think I can commit to participating. Maybe the peer pressure will get me to run more than I would normally.



Week One: Day Two 3 years ago

Today was the same drill as Saturday, except of course it was Monday and I had to do it after a full day of work. But I DID do it. This time I counted the times around the track. 19.5 times around a track that is 1/14 of a mile or roughly 1.39 miles in that 20 minutes. But considering that 12 minutes of that time was actually walking and only 8 minutes was jogging, I suppose that’s not too bad. Let’s see what happens Wednesday…



It was 8:00 actually 3 years ago

when I got suited up. There was a mist falling but Mib7 and I were determined to start “running” today. A half a block from the house she suggested, brilliantly, that we walk briskly to the Y for our warm up and then use their nice indoor track. Once we got there, we did a quick 10 minute warmup on the machines then did Week One: Day One of the Couch to 5k training plan which is to walk 90 seconds/jog 60 seconds/repeat for 20 minutes. I’m feeling great!

This is significant for a very silly reason. Our local YMCA used to be in a horrible, decrepit building but I loved going there because I felt like the place accepted me where I was. Then they built a new facility this is eye-popping and slick. But I got this psychological block that the Y was no longer for me but rather for the happy, shiny people who I secretly hate (grin) I have continued to pay for a Y membership but I have used it maybe twice since they opened the new location. I just gotta get over it—or go when the shiny people are still in bed!



Current projections 3 years ago

If I start the “Couch to 5k” training plan tomorrow morning at 7:00 AM and if I follow it without set back, then in 6 weeks I’ll run a mile without stopping and live to tell the tale.

So that’s roughly the first week of November, right? Now this Goal at least has a time frame.
