Get a tattoo

Payday in about three weeks; taking on plenty of shifts at my new job over Christmas so I’ll be able to get inked for certain in the new year.
Someone said that if I wanted ink this much, I’d have sucked it up and got it already, but it’s nothing to do with that. Money is, and will be for the forseeable future, a huge issue for me. I’m no good at saving and that’s something I’m going to work on changing in 2010. I do want ink, I want plenty of it. But there’s always the issue of money and of my own self confidence standing in my way.
Here in Edinburgh, I’m happier in myself than I have ever been so that’s one obstacle all but defeated and now, with my new job and with payday looming, the other is beaten too.

They say it starts with one bit of ink and it’s downhill from there.
I already know that’s how it’s going to go down xD

I’ve found some beautiful studios in Edinburgh, one of which welcomes walk ins.
Definitely an option, perhaps even for this weekend…

So I’m now in Edinburgh, still tattoo free >.<
I’ve got a list that feels several years long of what I’d like to get done at one point or another, but we’ll see how finances pan out, as that’s the only thing standing my way.

This goal has changed quite a bit. We’re not getting the Shermoon first, much as I wanted to. I always wanted lyrics from Attack! Attack!’s song From Now On, because of what it’s meant to me over the last few months and I’m all but booked in to get it done.
I’ll front the extra money for the blood tests we might need for the medical myself, but I don’t think it’ll be happening anytime this summer and my mother knows that as soon as I’m up in Edinburgh I’ll go a bit wild.

Anyway, I’m pretty familiar with the A boys and I ended up asking Neil, the lead singer and the guy who wrote the song, to write out the lyrics for me for my tattoo and we had a chat about what it meant to me and I think maybe even they were a bit taken aback by the crazy shit it got me through.

I’ve got the placement right, the size right, I just need to book an appointment on Monday when my friend goes in for her first tattoo. I had a chat with the girl who’ll be doing it and she’s wonderful and I can’t wait to see how she does with Laura’s ink.

The Shermoon will be the first tattoo I get up in Edinburgh. I’m going to get it all booked when I go up for the day in August.

The extra money is only for an extra blood test.
They don’t charge per piercing, per tattoo, per anything like that.
It’s just for another sample so that they can check for Hepitatis B & C.

So I can definitely afford to put that towards my medical.
I’ll run it by my mum to check I’ve got the details right, but kids, we could be good to go.

That if we can’t afford the medicals by mid-July, I’ll go get a tattoo done and then just put the £70 extra cost towards the medical myself.
It’s only fair.
And even if I don’t need to pay the extra, my mum can still have it to help her out. Australia is my family’s dream and much as I want tattoos and piercings now, I won’t make them pay for them in any way.

I really think I chose the wrong time of life to make myself into the person I wanted to be, tattoos and piercings and all.

Piercings add an extra £100 onto the medical.
And tattoos an extra £70.
It’s almost unfair.

I think what’s really getting to me is the fact that we don’t even have the money together to pay for the medicals and by the time we do (we’re going to need quite probably in excess of £1000 to cover it) I could probably have covered that extra money myself.
It’s definitely a thought I’m going to put to my mother.

I’m in awe of how much it costs to try and move to another country, when we’re not even guaranteed entry.

That getting a tattoo is something that’s going to add cost onto the medical; if piercings do, wouldn’t a tattoo?

I’ll have to ask my mum.
This is getting beyond the joke, especially as I’m not even moving there for three years.

Visiting a studio in Lancaster soon to get my lip pierced so I’m going to have a chat with the lovely people there and see if I can get booked in for ink in a few weeks time.
