The awkward moment when...

I found my dream flat in York. Too bad I have no intention of moving there for another two years. It’s 120k, which, given the market and the location, is pretty good. Here’s hoping it (or another one within the same development) shows up again when I’m ready to buy in a few years time.
When I get a full time job, I’m going into the bank to ask them about starting a savings account so I can save money for the deposit on my first home.
I really want to own a flat in York, so that I can do my masters part time and have somewhere to live for the two years that’ll take (and the time beyond,as I really can’t see myself living anywhere else) and also so I can have a dog :]

The thing is, if I want to be a history teacher, I want to be one in the UK. It’s nothing against Australia as a country, but their education system rarely offers history as a standard subject. Either it’s an elective or it’s part of the English course. I need to be somewhere that really pushes the subject as one in it’s own right and one that’s compulsory for students.
History teacher is kind of the back up plan to BBC History Presenter but y’know, I can dream.
Either way, I want to own my own flat in York, so I can decorate it and love it for however long I’m there.
I’m trying to get long term when it comes to my savings. Starting out even if it’s just $50 a week means that in a few years, I’ll at least have something to build on when I don’t have university fees from finishing my BA.

Naturally

This is something that won’t come about for a long time yet, given my age, my financial status and the current property market, but one day, it’ll be possible.

Right now, the dream is a small apartment. The location is undecided and will, of course, depend on my situation at the time I come to buy.
Australia is a very rental based place, so if I choose to stay there, this goal could be a long time in completion!
