That was a lengthy task, since I opted to label many of my current emails. I found that Gmail’s filters helped a great deal here, since I could assemble a search query (as complex as I liked, in the “message contains” field) then apply labels retroactively. Of great aid were the search strings label:inbox and is:unread.
I feel much better now, since things are organized, and the important stuff will pop out at me. I’ve also gained a more robust tag library, and several useful filters. Productivity boosts are expected.
