Why is the iPod such a pleasure to use when so many consumer devices are so terrible?
Lately I’ve been fascinated with the notion of finding a way to radically redesign a commonplace consumer product and vastly improve its usability. My first target may be the humble digital alarm clock. In my current mental model I’ve slimmed it down to a total of two controls (possibly a third to allow one-button selection of daylight saving / normal time). I’m tempted to buy a bunch of components at Fry’s and solder together a prototype over the holidays. Hmmm.
