So, I found this great website. It is called pose maniacs and the idea behind it is that you can set a timer, a pose comes up on the screen and you have that long to draw the pose. I have heard from people who I respect as artists that the 30 second drawing is the best thing you can do to get good at sketching. The website suggests 10 a day (that is only 5 minutes). I am still doing it on the computer as I like using the computer for all sorts of things and I need to get better at the tablet. So, here are my first sketches… I will keep at this I hope. On a side note, the poses are quite interesting because the posee does not have any skin, so you get to see the muscles and the lines of the muscles which helps with getting the line of the motion.

recommended I take a shot at hands. My anatomy book is missing, as is my sketch book, so I tried out sketching on my digital tablet, using a real live hand model-me. It made the undo button difficult, but otherwise, no problems. I have successfully, and unsuccessfully sketched my hand….
Not entirely pleased with it, but if I get around to a scanning it, I will post it here. It is a start. I may do another scapula or move on to the humerous if I feel up to it.
(note: Sept 2008-added photograph of sketch)
Anatomy for the Artist book today! Yipee. So I went to draw my first scapula and lo and behold, my sketch book and pencils have been packed. We are moving in a month, so my wife is getting a head start on packing. At least she is packing, don’t get me wrong, I am not complaining, just lamenting.
Oh well, I have my book. I will get a new sketch book tomorrow. I love buying sketch books almost as much as I love buying journals. Pencils come in a distant 3rd.
I have to say that although I am sure there are many things that I want to sketch, people make up about 95% of my desired subject matter.
So Scapulas to start, then a little Humerus to break things up, followed by the Ulna and the Radius.
