get a job

So, I’ve struggled even harder to get supply work after I was told I can’t teach until my NQT extension comes through. I can’t get my NQT extension through because my last place of work hasn’t sent off the paperwork for my 2nd NQT assessment. They haven’t sent off the paperwork because they’re awkward sods who enjoy making people’s lives hell.

So I’m down to teaching assistant supply work only. I have contacted the union to try and get some paperwork out of them, but it hasn’t helped. It’s probably completely illegal what they’re doing, but I’m losing interest in fighting back very quickly.

So I’ve gone back to working in a bookies. It’s what I did before I was a teacher. I sent my CV off and they’ve offered me the job of a shop manager. It’s not a bad job, and it’s definitely a nicer job than some of the colleges I’ve worked in.

I was thinking about going back to uni and retraining, or perhaps just doing it until my paperwork is recovered and I can get my NQT done and rebuild my career. But to be honest, I can’t be arsed. I just want a job that pays the bills.

I lost my last job as a teacher due to ill health. I decided to do supply teaching, after discussing it with my Doctor and having him OK me to do that type of work.

Only, with the recession, there’s no supply teaching going. Schools are making existing staff cover for absent teachers or even employing ‘cover supervisors’ who only cover absent teacher’s lessons, but are much cheaper than a supply. There’s absolutely nothing going.

I also went for 4 – yes FOUR – interviews for different jobs within Lancashire Libraries, and didn’t get one. They hated me.

So I’m thinking a teaching assistant or cover supervisor job would be good, but to be honest, I’d take anything to tide me over because not being in work is really making my panic attacks flare up.

There’s a bar job going near me… I think I might have to go as low as that. I’m sure I’m not the only one in this situation.
