First Draft

I have finished the first draft of my first novel. I did it in 30 days. Two hundred and sixty-one pages of story out of my head and onto the page but with more ideas about how to change the story and make it better during revision.

Changes

I have decided to consolidate my updates regarding writing on 43things. Please refer to my goal Write a Book for updates. Thanks!

49 Weeks...Such A Long Time It Seems

It has been 49 weeks since I last entered anything about this particular goal. I have not given it up; to the contrary, I have been writing each day. I have recently decided to rewrite the entire story I had come up with, however. I think it is much better now than the initial try. I have broken 14,000 words on this new version, so far, and with ease. I have not been stuck even one time. I have learned alot about writing. I do not have difficulty in finding my way from one situation to another. The “What If” game helps me immensely. Things I never would have thought of before now spring into my mind and keeps me on the edge of my seat as I sit here in this very chair at night with the glow of my computer screen lighting up my face and the room around me while the fire in my eyes burns with a story exposing itself one word at a time. If you are stuck and would like to know how I do things, just drop me a line.

How is it Going?

It was four days ago when I typed up my last entry on this particular goal, but each day I update my progress under my “Write A Book” goal, including my word count for the day and the total count of the overall story ever-so-often. Things are going well for me so far. Progress is being made each day, with the exception of Day 7, and I feel the story is progressing. There are, however, times when I wonder if the story will be able to carry itself the full length of a novel. I have reached the point where something big must happen, yet I don’t want it to the climax of the story. We’ll just have to wait and see how it progresses from this point on.

My Experience So Far

Four days ago now, I began writing a fiction piece from scratch. I didn’t even have a clue as to what I was going to write about. I just started to write. I set a personal goal of 1,700 words per day that I would like to produce, and I have kept very close to that goal each day. Granted it is still early in the process, but each day I find that I am more interested in my story than the previous day.

Reaching a daily goal helps to keep my interest up. Whenever we reach a personal goal, we feel better about ourselves. I have found a structure that has worked very well for me. Each day I write an entry and state what my word count for each day has been, and I state what my overall word count is and how I feel the story is coming along.

I have only two goals selected for myself here, to write a book and to write my first book. Those are pretty much the same right? They are very close. But they can be seen in two different lights. When you say that you are writing a book, people often ask if it is your first book; that establishes credibility with the person whom you are speaking to. They feel as though you are an established writer/author and you have some authority when talking about the subjects and processes of those books.

I’m just kind of rambling here, but I’m in a good mood because I exceeded my daily word count goal yesterday. But the main point of this entry is just to let you see how things progress. I still have 27 days left to write, so check back each day and see how things are going. Write well, write often.

Can He Do It?

I will begin today. My new project will consume quite a bit of my time I’m sure. 1700 words per day—written; this should be fun, but at the same time, tedious. As I have written in an entry under “Write A Book”, I will have to count each word (or approximate) at the end of each day to see if I have met my goal. I will need support and a kick in the pants. So, let’s see what happens!

Offer A Thought

I have been toying with writing a book for some time now. I
have started to write a few, some fiction, some non-fiction. My
problem isn’t coming up with the words to fill the pages, but
rather coming up with a topic that would find a general
audience. What are people interested in reading about? There
are more topics than I can think of. Technical writing isn’t
what I’m looking for.

I don’t have a college education. I don’t
know a whole lot about anything really. I know a little about a
lot of different things. I meander about the internet in search
of ideas. I read through the newspaper in hopes of finding
something that will strike me in such a way that I feel the
flame within ignite as though gasoline had just been dumped on
it by the gallon.

If there are suggestions to be made, please
make them. What do you like to talk about with your friends?
What do you think about when it comes to life in general? What
are you concerns in life? Just throw something in to the
wind.
