All I want are some new shirts—casual, but not too casual or too cute. Even though spring is coming, I need long sleeves, because the winter shirts I’ve been wearing are not fit to be seen outside the house. But the department stores seem to have only teeny-bopper styles. It seems like everyone just wants to be sexy these days, but that’s not appropriate at work.

Buying new bras. As Oprah says, a good bra can work wonders on a woman’s appearance. After all, you wouldn’t put high-quality siding on a rickety house frame, would you? So I’m going to start by bolstering the support structure.
Although I’d like to throw out a lot of clothes, I’ll have to work on this goal one piece at a time. Last weekend, I found two new (and fashionable!) shirts, a pair of silk pants (on 70 percent discount), and a flowing skirt. Most of the things I really like are expensive, and I’d rather go for quality, rather than quantity, this time. I might still be living like a graduate student, but I’m no longer willing to dress like one!
The clothes in my closet don’t fit my self-image anymore. Worse yet, some of them are starting to show signs of their age. I used to hang onto things because they had sentimental value, but there’s nothing sentimental about a shirt that is losing its original coloration in a very ugly way. I’ll be really happy when I can check this one off.
