I (sort of) did this today! 18 months ago

I’m not marking this as complete, because what I did today was only a small adventure, more along the lines of exploration, and wasn’t actually a trip. But anyway, my story:

I dropped my little brother off at the ball fields, then instead of heading home, I turned the opposite direction from the fields. I picked a road off the main road at random, crossed a one-lane bridge, and began my journey. I drove slowly along the road, enjoying the beautiful houses and wooded areas, then found some not-so-nice houses and trailers. At one point I passed an Amish Hands furniture place, which I did not know existed so close to where I live.

The road ended out on a highway I recognized from visiting a friend occasionally in middle and high school, but I wasn’t so sure on its actual location, so I just continued to drive. Almost immediately after setting out, I saw a deer get hit and killed by a coal truck =(

I turned onto East 75 and followed it all the way out until I found the road off which my neighborhood lies. On this “leg” of the “trip”, I found the place where one of my classmates was killed in a car wreck in high school.

This trip was fun for the simple fact that I did not know exactly where I was, but it was rather depressing based on two of my “discoveries”: the deer and the memorial.

a la Elizabethtown 20 months ago

Ever since I saw the movie Elizabethtown (Orlando Bloom, Kirsten Dunst), and even before, I’ve wanted to just drive. I want to see where the road takes me. I want to pick turns at random, and see the country, and visit tiny little towns that no one ever remembers the names of. I want to find the best glass of sweet tea in all the South. I want to see the most beautiful sunset words can’t even begin to describe. I want to dance under the stars in the open fields.

I just want to go.
