I have a job as a cashier at the local Military Post Exchange. For those who don’t know, it’s like a Walmart, only it is for military members only. We have several teens and young adults who come to work and expect to get paid to do nothing, if you ask them to do anything they get upset. I’m going to tell everyone like I told my kids. Work is not a party, it’s work! They pay you to work, not chat with your friends, talk on your cell phone, read magazines, or snack on food. If you want to do those things that is what lunch and break times are for. When you are on the clock you WORK! To the managers and supervisors out there…it’s your job to make sure they work! Just because you know someones parents doesn’t mean you can let them get away with not doing their job. If I acted the way these kids so I’d be fired, so either make them work, or fire them. They need to learn soon that when you earn a paycheck, you have to really EARN it! You can’t expect the other workers to remain happy and employed with your company if you let a few hang out instead of working.
