Organize my office

Technically, it isn’t really organized. It just doesn’t exist as an office any more. But the goal no longer applies, so it’s kind of been half-met.

I don't have an office any more...  — 2 years ago

So this goal is pretty much completed. Gave the office up to a temporary room-mate (six months or so). So now I need to organize my living room!

Having further compressed...  — 2 years ago

I am almost finished going through the wrapping paper. Last night I finished folding and separating all the various papers, and rolling all the ribbons, from our wedding. Those are dedicated to a fairly specific purpose.
Tonight I finished folding and separating the REST of the saved wrapping paper and kind for future re-use.
I still have a box of odds and ends from the wedding proper (nylon flowers, cards, ribbons, napkins, table-cloths, planning files, yada yada, you name it) and a bag of paper from the shower, but at least all the paper is together, 80% gone-through, and ready to be compressed even further into sub-groups and accessible arrangements.
Still have two fairly random baskets to go through, kind of the catch-alls for little non-intuitively-placed things since this project began.
Still a fair amount of separating, organizing, compartmentalizing to do, but the end is in sight and so is the floor! Got it down to about 2×2x1’ – visible, at least.
Now a two-day break while the hubby and I hit Symes Hot Springs. My husband thinks my progress on the pile o’crap is truly a thing to behold – amazing! Says he.

The end is in sight...  — 2 years ago

I did manage to get the magazines down to one crate. Then I went through one large storage bin, a crate, and several bags of clothes/material that I had intended to fix/clean/transform/whathaveyou. Got all that separated logically and neatly. Stayed up until about 3:30 a.m. last night, then up and at it again this morning.
Today I spent my time organizing “craft” and art materials/supplies/tchotchkes. I even cleared enough space to move an old upholstered rocking chair out of the bedroom and into a corner of the living room. And now the pile of crap-yet-to-be-dealt-with is only about 3×5’, maybe two feet high. Have two bags to send to the thrift store (so far), dumped two bags in the trash, sent four bags to the recycling center. So that’s progress.

Packrat Extraordinaire...  — 2 years ago

Well. I’m being forced into this, more or less. Have a friend who needs a place to stay indefinitely, and rather than having him crash out in our living room, decided to EMPTY OUT my office completely (except for my desktop/desk, file cabinet, and one small shelf). Now all that shit is in the living room, just waiting to be gone through! It takes up a corner about 6×10’, stacked about three feet high. So far I’ve made it through four crates of magazines. After weeding through them, I probably have about a crate and a half left that I am not yet willing to part with. If I can just get rid of that half – one crate is better than four! And I will have to go through all of this crap NOW because it just can’t stay in the living room forever – before it was kind of outta sight, outta mind, but now – it’s visually pressing. Unfortunately (for the organizational process), all my days off for the next three weeks are eaten up by travel – going to Symes Hot Springs this week for two nights, and then the following week we leave for Portland/Oregon coast for nine days. So I better bust a move! Anyhow, put a futon in the office and now it is all ready for our houseguest come Monday. So that’s something…

Aargh!  — 2 years ago

I keep putting this off. It’s such a frieking chaos pit. I’m kind of reserving it as my quit-smoking project next week (yeah, girl, keep telling yourself that!).
