to the thyme and the dill. But everything else is thriving. Five outta seven ain’t bad, right? Right? Well, all I have left to repot is the lavender. Should pro’lly get right on that…

on Tuesday. Now for the rest of the little buggers! The dill seems to be suffering the most, but I think they all could use a container change. Hmmm.
but I think it’s time to transplant. Need to do some research ASAP.
Holy crap, I planted greek oregano, bouquet dill, thai basil, mint, english thyme, garlic chives, and lavender. I started them in tin cans with holes punched in the bottom. I planted them 6/30 and every single ONE of the pots is now evidencing green little shoots of life. Unfortunately, I don’t know what to do next. Do I transplant them? How many of them can grow together in one space? Do they need to go outside? Hot damn. Well, there’s definitely a learning curve.
Well, at least I’m growing something (shiitakes and sprouts, so far) but herbs are soon to be the order of the day. Hubby got me a kit containing a variety of seeds for culinary herbs (V-day, aww, he also got me a bonsai tree to grow, very plant-oriented V-day this year…which is a good thing!). I’m going to wait to start them until we get to our new apartment, but I’m really looking forward to it!
I am growing shiitake mushrooms right now and they are frieking amazing! It is so much fun – the daily growth is drastic and visually verifiable. Think I’ll be harvesting my first batch tonight, with more to follow throughout the week. This time I started with a kit, but next time I think I’ll order my own spores and begin from the beginning. My hubby did it back in the day with the fun-guy kind, but I’m all about the culinary creatures at this point in my life.
A kit like this would be really fun for anyone with kids, or anyone who just likes to watch things grow. I’ll try to look up the name of my kit later and post a link or something.
Hubby got me a really useful and interesting older book for X-mas, it’s called “The Complete Book of Herbs, A practical guide to growing and using herbs,” by Lesley Bremmes (1988). Very engaging, easy to read and understand, lots of useful charts and ideas.
I got a mushroom growing kit for X-mas from my dad and step-mom. So I am about to embark on a shiitake-growing project. Let the fungus roll.
Well, I haven’t grown any actual herbs yet, but I am growing my own alfalfa sprouts. Does that count? Man those little buggers grow fast!
