I’ve moved to Texas from the Pacific NW 3 years ago tomorrow looking for a milder, sunnier weather and a more diversified economy; as well as a good cultural scene; what better than Austin TX!!! right? Weel, sooner after I got here and before I could get better acuainted with my new city I started working a lot (thank God since I was unemployed in Portland for while…) About a year ago my partner and I bought a home in a semi-rural community that is growing pretty fast, which is located approx 25 miles north from Austin. We both work north, and our commute to work is pretty short and not too bad… but we never really have a reason to go to Austin anymore. We both love Austin though; but we dread the drive, and the traffic on both I-35 and Mopac… BUT we made a commitment to at least once a month exploring a new place in Austin and making the best out of it!
On Saturday we went to Laguna Gloria… what an amazing, romantic, inspiring place! If you’ve never been there you have to check it out! I promise you, you won’t be dissapointed. Laguna Gloria was the dream home of Clara Driscoll and her husband in the early 1900’s and today is part of the AMOA Austin Museum of Arts, donated to them by Clara after her death. The place also holds and Art school and the best views of the Colorado River you can possibly imagine! I have been day dreaming about living there ever since we’ve been there… simply AMAZING!!!
