I have type II diabetes, so watching my carbs is very important. Still, diabetics can have sweets, so why cut them out? I realized I was cutting more and more nutritional carbs out of my diet to fit sweets into my plan. Sugar free desserts cost more, often use sugar alcohols that have some unpleasant gastrointestinal side effects, come in less variety and are harder to find, so they aren’t an acceptable substitute. Furthermore, I behave like an addict when I’m craving hard, which makes me rather insufferable.

I’ve already gone four days without sweets, but I thought it would be good to make a written commitment. Ultimately, I want to give up sweets on a day-to-day basis but make exceptions for social situations (birthdays, holiday meals, desserts specially made by friends, etc.). This will probably translate to sweets a couple times a month, instead of a couple times a day every day at my worst. I will mark this as done when I have gone six months without sweets, barring the exceptions noted above. Wish me luck!
