Day 4

Breakfast: Toast with apricot jam

Lunch: Rice

Tea: Tomato soup and toast

I have been surprised

at the generosity of my friends during this week. I have doubled my donation target!! Last day tomorrow :D

Halfway through!

I’m getting desperate for ideas. What I have left:

  • One serve of dahl
  • One serve of boiled rice
  • Half punnet of tomatoes
  • 1/2 broccoli
  • 1 potato
  • 1/2 loaf of white bread
  • Apricot jam

What I’m thinking of doing is making the rest of the dahl into kind of patties, maybe use some of the bread for crumbs and then making a kind of sauce from the tomatoes. So that would be one meal.

And then make something from the broccoli and potato. But what?

I’m very open to suggestions :) Please note that the only “extra” item I can use is water.

Day 3

Breakfast: Toast with apricot jam

Lunch: Baked Potato with leftover dahl

Tea: Pear

Day 2

Breakfast: Toast with apricot jam

Then I needed to go to the supermarket for laundry powder. As soon as I walked into the supermarket every colour and every chocolate stand hit me like a smack in the face.

Lunch: Broccoli & Rice

Dinner: Tomato sandwich

Day 1

Breakfast: Toast with apricot jam

Lunch: Baked Potato

Tea: Dhal with tomatoes

And water. Lots and lots and lots of water.

I just checked my emails to find that 2 people have donated! One of my friends donated $50. The other, anonymous donated $100!! :D

Food for the next 5 days
  • Packet of long grain rice $1.70
  • Apricot Jam $1.40
  • Grape tomatoes $1.80
  • x3 Potatoes $1.25
  • Broccoli $1.40
  • Loaf of bread $1.00
  • 1/2 Packet of red lentils $1.00

With 50c to spare for spices

Tentative shopping list for the week

500g long grain rice-$1.70
1 loaf of bread-$1
potatoes-$3
375g lentils-$1.50
1 florret of broccoli-$1.30
2 tomatoes-60c
packet of spices-

I say tentative because I’m not certain of the cost of some things. But I figure without meat, potatoes are filling. I can combine lentils and rice to make a complete protein. Broccoli contains calcium which I’ll otherwise miss out on. Tomatoes, well it won’t hurt to have another vegetable in there. Loaf of bread is for toast in the mornings. Packet of spices-well meals are going to be pretty bland without them.

Also, I just donated $20 to myself :)

What is it?

From May 7th-11th thousands of people will live on just $2 a day to experience what it’s like to live below the poverty line and to raise money to help break the poverty cycle.

This year, participants from Australia (like myself) will raise funds to open a school in Papua New Guinea.

If you would like to donate to me, head over to this link https://www.livebelowtheline.com/me/katherinemiller

I’m aiming for $100, so every little bit helps :)
