I was doing really well until I started working on the house. Now, I’m staying out in the country where the fields are overgrown and too uneven and the only road is busy with 55mph traffic. But it has a wide shoulder so we’ll be out there while the sun is shining, starting today.

Having been unable to do ANYTHING other than work on the house for 4 months makes even dog-walking in sub-freezing weather seem like FUN!
I didn’t want to, my husband didn’t want to, and I was going to turn around at the 1/2 mile mark. Knowing that it’s good for us, I kept going. The dogs continued to behave nicely and the mosquitoes continued to be scarce. By 3/4 miles, I was happy to be there!
usually 6 days a week, 1 at only a mile and the rest at 2 miles, and always (now) with both dogs. I’m kind of hoping/working at getting it to truly Every Day.
I’m sure they didn’t go walking while I was gone, but they weren’t bad on our first day out (Wednesday) and I don’t think we missed a day since. All that practice is having a good effect. Yesterday, we went late (even though I’d been out for dinner with husband & neighbors).
This is a possibility to be marked as DONE if I need an opening; not that I’ll be stopping, but I believe I have been successful!
Reminding myself that “I am not a wimp” has been working well. I was out every evening except Tuesday, with both dogs, for the full two-mile trek each time. Today there was no firm footing, as the roads haven’t been scraped, and at the quarter-mile mark I was planning to turn around at the half-mile, but I persevered. I’m tired this evening! I think a hot bath might be just the thing.
Tuesday evenings my husband likes us to attend group meetings out of town, so I can’t really squeeze in a walk then, but we’ve skipped no other days the past two weeks! YAY – and last weekend on Saturday, I took them out before breakfast and before dinner. They were content and calm all evening; or, they were depressed because my husband was gone; I haven’t really figured out which.
I sort of took Friday off from all my goals, but we were on the road again yesterday – I took both dogs – and today my dearly beloved husband joined us once again :)
Two days in a row, I followed my new plan. The weather is even less conducive than it was, but I’ve declared that “I am not a wimp”. Today I even took both dogs!
There’s at least 4 inches of snow, and the roads are icy, so I limited myself to one dog and the two of us to one mile. We did make it out and back,so it’s a good start to the year. I have a plan that I can leave work at 5 every day, walk the dog(s), eat dinner and then, if necessary, return to work. It seems reasonable today.
