I bonded with a new friend by going to a “Hot Yoga” studio this Sunday morning. Here is the website link to give you an idea of what I was in for:

The yoga studio is in this secluded little coffee shop town next to Arcata, with lots of Redwood trees, shaded dirt paths, ferns, moss, etc.
For an hour and a half I sweat away my toxins and it hurt! I have not done yoga since the age of 18, when I took a college class focusing on Hatha Yoga. I recommend taking a class rather then just showing up if you’re serious about yoga because if the instructor does not know that you don’t know key bends you can hurt yourself. Luckily this did not happen to me. But, as an example, my college instructor said that you should never do a back bend and a twist stretch/pose in the same session because you can pinch a spinal nerve (I don’t know if this is fact or just recommendation.) Plus you get more personal attention to posture in a regularly scheduled class, as opposed to just showing up with twenty strangers and looking in the mirror to see if your body is aligned correctly. But it was so fun. So, so fun. I forgot how clean and energetic it feels to move those muscles and concentrate on breathing. Next Sunday my buddy and I are going for it again. It’s about 101 degrees in the room; the perfect escape for the cold rainy season here.
