Hit the wall
I’ve really hit the wall on this one. I need to rip back again on the body to fix another mistake. But what’s really bothering me is that I carefully planned for the sweater to turn out to a certain size … and the good news is that it IS that size … but the bad news is that it seems to be huge. Too much ease!
So I’m thinking about what the next step might be, if there is a next step for this sweater. Or maybe I will start a new project.

Where was I? Previous entry from July 15 was anticipating having the underarm gussets finished by the time of knitting class July 18. I was very nearly finished with the underarm gusset section of sweater during class when I had a horrid realization. Those rounds an inch or so earlier, that I had thought were an optical illusion, really in fact did NOT match the rest of the work. No optical illusion, just plain wrong.
So I had to rip back. And the re-knitting has not gone quite as speedily as before (the mistake took a little wind out of my sails).
So it is just this morning that I am finally finished with the underarm gusset section, and have broken the sweater from knitting in rounds to knitting flat, back and forth, for the upper chest.

is a gansey, knitted in the round. (This goal goes with my goal of “finish homework for knitting class,” BTW). I have knitted the body up to the underarms and begun the underarm gussets. Size 3 needles, true gansey yarn that is fingering weight, many cables … this is slloooow going … theoretically I should have this knitted up to the shoulders by the time class meets on Saturday, but I doubt that I will make it that far. Still, having the gussets completed to the point where I break the knitting in-the-round and begin knitting back-and-forth is a reasonable amount to get done by Saturday morning.
