Soft drinks with the minimum of rubbish 11 months ago

I am used to drink cold beverages at breakfast and during the day. Usually I bought single-dose of tetrapack juices, to have the chance to change taste every time, but I realized that it was a big waste of packing, so I started to buy only 2 liters of juices packing. For the ‘isolated’ occasions I bought a soluble lemon ice tea pack: I tried almost all the choices I found in the big grocery centers in my city, and I found a really good one at a honest price. Now when I want a glass of ice tea, I just need to melt a spoon of this powder in a cold water glass, and with very few trash: in every big pack there is at least the quantity for 50 glasses of ice tea!

Mooncup 11 months ago

On February of this year (2008), I bought a menstrual cup: Mooncup, that permitted to me to save many many not reciclable towels. It is a very comfortable and hyigenic system that I suggest to all women.

Reducing paper bags as more as possible 11 months ago

Since a year ago, I always have a cloth grocery bag in my bag, and when I go to the market, I bring my plastic bag (even if some sellers look at me with suspecious…). I am trying to quit to use food bags for the refrigerator or freezer, and I substitute them with glass container.

no plastic glass or purchased water in office 12 months ago

... nor in home, except for gas water, sometime.
I am lucky, in my town (Rome) the taste of tap water is really good.

No 'ancient' bulbs in my house 12 months ago

For few years, I have no classical bulbs in my house, except in the closet (where I need fast but short lighting).

Signed in FreeCycle Rome group 12 months ago

Very useful idea: being part of a local group of people that ask and offer used objects.
In the last weeks I got an old but perfectly working washing machine from an old couple who needed a smaller one, and I gave it to a friend of mine who was looking for it (otherwise she would have to buy a new one). And yesterday a young woman keep from my basement a big trunk I no more used.

Use recycled paper for home use 12 months ago

I collect only one side written sheets from my office and my friends offices, and at home I use only these. I cut some of them in 2 or 4 parts, to have entire sheets, or more little ones for different purposes (like shopping lists or memo).
In my office, I use them as seldom as possible, and I notices that my colleagues are not upset when they discover to have printed in other side written sheet I left in the printer. In most cases in fact there is no reason to use new paper.

No softener in my washing machine 12 months ago

I read about how polluting the softener products are, so I substitute them with few white winegar, and save money, as well.
