I am 23 years old. My family is all pretty overweight. My older brother and sister started watching their weight and I am officially the heaviest of the 3 of us. I am also the youngest by 15 years. My weight affects my back, knees, skating, and self image. About 2 or 3 months ago I weighed 225lbs.

So about 6 weeks ago my boyfriend and I started the South Beach diet. I did it once before and didn’t stick with it. He is doing really well, he lost about 25lbs so far. I’ve lost about 18lbs, but I haven’t lost in 2 or 3 weeks. I’m really frustrated with it. I haven’t given up though. I heard that if you plateau and then eat something that isn’t very healthy sometimes it can kick start your weight-loss again. So I have a very small piece of cake at my nephew’s birthday party yesterday with a tiny scoop of ice cream. I also had a wrap with a flour tortilla and a few fries…and honey in my tea. MINOR things, but I’m hoping that the small shock to my body will help restart my losing now that I am eating normal again as of this morning.

I roller skate 2-3 times a week. At least 2 hours a day usually. I need to start doing something in addition to that though. Again, I think my body is used to it. I get sore if I have a rough practice, but for the most part it doesn’t really change my body. According to my research, someone my current weight (207lbs), skating at roughly the speed and intensity that we do at practice, should burn about 600-700 calories an hour. But somehow I don’t lose weight. haha. I don’t pig out after practices. I honestly think that I’m just not eating enough throughout the day.

Speaking of which…I’m going to go get a salad.
