Let's do this. — 2 years ago

I’m signed up for the Run Hit Wonder! 2 weeks to go.
I’ve found the 5K I want to enter: http://www.fleetfeetchicago.com/htm/events_races_womens.asp
I’m really amused that just about every entry under this goal is mine.
Anywho, I ran for the first time since the I hurt myself with the new shoes. My calves felt really tight, but I made it through the workout. Something tells me I’m going to have to do each week for two weeks, but I’m ok with that. I’d rather take it slow than hurt myself.
Oh. Dear. God.
I bought new shoes to run in, and my feet are KILLING me. I couldn’t even make it through all 6 reps today. WTF? Aren’t running shoes supposed to make running not hurt?
Friday was a tough run. I didn’t want to go. But I made myself do it. And I’m glad I did.
Tomorrow, I start the next week of the training plan. This calls for 90 seconds of running alternated with 2 minutes of walking, for a total of 25 minutes.
Today was an off day – it’s raining and gross out. I think tomorrow will be my last week 1 workout – then I up it to 90 seconds running alternating with 2 minutes walking.
I just did Day 3 of week 1. I think I’m going to stretch out week 1 for the rest of this week until I feel like I’m comfortable. I can even feel the difference from day 1 to today. It was easier to breathe, and I wasn’t completely exhausted when I was done.
I’m workin’ on this – I’m on day 2, week 1 of the Cool Running Couch-to-5K program. My calves hurt like hell, which I think is a good sign.
