I’ve found that when work is stressing me out, I would rather go home for lunch. Fortunately, work is not all that stressful most of the time. So I will try to continue to do this.

Pasta w/ pesto (made from basil from my garden), some carrots from my garden, and a whole package of organic blueberries. Yum. I love fruit.
Today it’s wheatberries w/ sauteed mushrooms, tuna-white bean salad, and more beets en vinaigrette. Was hoping for some fruit for dessert, but I had eaten all the cherries and nothing else appealed to me.
More orzo salad, some beets in vinaigrette, and a big wedge of melon. Man, I’ve been eating well and healthily lately!
It helps that it’s supposed to be 90 degrees plus all week long. At temps of that level, climbing into a black-with-black-interior car that has no air conditioning at high noon becomes much less attractive.
Finally. Still haven’t gotten a lunch bag. Realizing that that’s a poor excuse. I don’t really need a lunch bag. I just need to get up so I have time to pack my lunch and eat breakfast, or commit to packing it the night before.
Lunch today: cold soba noodles with shiitake mushrooms; cabbage and carrot salad; 1 nectarine and 1 plum.
Helps that I have a lot of appealing leftovers lying around.
It was a goooood salad. Lettuces, orange peppers, edamame, olives, with some red wine vinegar, EVOO, and ground pepper. Delish. I need a vinegar/oil cruet to keep in my desk so I can dress my salads fresh. Also a pepper grinder to keep here.
I also had two pieces of the kale-mushroom-blue cheese frittata I made for dinner last night.
All in all, a satisfying meal. I’m getting a lunchbag this weekend.
I made a salad with greens, leftover salmon, red peppers, and green onions. I have some tamari-flavored pumpkin seeds here in my snack drawer, so those will go in also. I brought the library book I’m reading, so the plan is to go outside and read over lunch. Much better than sitting at my desk or at home. I’m going to start keeping a blanket in my car; the picnic table is sort of in the sun, and that’s just not going to work.
I really want a lunchbag, although I feel virtuous re-using grocery bags for this purpose. It’s just aesthetically nicer. I’m learning that I should not bring in carb-heavy stuff for my lunches – though I love me some carbs, they make me sleepy in the afternoons. Salads are good. I need more veggies in my diet anyhow.
Tofu “egg” salad sandwich, some vegetables, and an apple.
I need a nice lunch bag. A BIG one. I also need to work on packing the night before. If I do it in the morning, I just get stressed out.
Which is a luxury, but more and more, I’m realizing it’s ridiculous. For several reasons. I have an hour for lunch, and I spend 1/2 of that driving home and back. Makes me angry (I hate traffic); wastes gas. If I ate here at work, I could use that time to read. I can even eat outside; there are picnic tables next to the building. Also, I’m more likely to eat crap when I go home for lunch; I just grab what appeals to me (not always the best choice).
The only drawback to taking my lunch is that I have to find the time to pack it. The night before – if I leave it for the morning, it will not get done. It’s all I can do to make sure I eat breakfast before leaving for work in the mornings.
I think I’ll get myself a nice lunch bag/box so that I’ll be more inclined to take my lunch. There is really no reason not to. We have a microwave and fridge. The possibilities are endless.
