it very hard to stay in the moment. I keep finding myself making plans in the future for our move back to the Mainland.
Good thing I reread Tolle’s A New Earth last nite and was reminded about focusing on my breath as a way to stay present and stop thinking.

I am inspired by Tolle’s quote that we are NOT our thoughts, but the awareness that we are having thoughts. The thoughts are generated by the ego in it’s need to stay in charge. Whenever I find myself drifting off into the future or past, I can bring myself back by following my breath in and out of my body.
Another cute exercise is to watch your thoughts as they come up. Whenever I do this, and the ego knows I am watching, no thoughts come up. I sometimes imaging a playing court in gray and wait for thoughts to appear on the court. Nothing comes up while I am watching. But as soon as I take my attention from it. A thought about the future or past pops in and off I go. Well, at least it’s good to have “no thought” for a few moments and that respite.
