The word “building” may be translated in french as “gratte-ciel”. Litteraly : “(it) scrapes-the-sky”. I like this way to see things. The main character of my novel lives in a “gratte-ciel” but directed in the opposite. His home “scrapes-down-the-ground.” Why? Because air is like ashes (but he doesn’t know it). He wants to discover the “up-world.”

I am the writer of my novel but I’d like to be the first reader of it too. To dive into the story I need to visualize the decorum, the scenes and the atmosphere to describe them the most credible I can. That is why I decided to gather images from Flickr (type “Cities Underground” for instance) and to publish them in my Picasa account (as private, in a first time). Thanks to the “leave a comment” function I can directly write down what is going on in this place. Now it looks like a comic book which is incredibly flexible. With this simple idea I can build the beginning of the story like a big puzzle and reorganize it according to the predestined road of my main character (see last post).
Even a 1,000 footsteps travel begins with 1 step, says a japanese proverb. Like the 6,870 members of this group I decided to go… one step ahead in this goal. Right now I am gathering pieces of information to “build” a coherent world. I’d like to “prewrite” the hidden “checkpoints” the main character will have to pass. Like the movie “Equilibrium” (have you seen it?) – I don’t mind about the content of it, only its structure matters. It is a scenario very clean with a predestined road for its main character, John Preston. After which I would like to focus on the background – how it evolves and how fast ? Afterwards time will come to establish the relations between the main character and the world within he evolves.
