August/September: Jane Austen - Emma 2 months ago

This took a bit longer, but only because I was reading some other things in between (not worth mentioning here). But I enjoyed reading it a lot.

July - Various 4 months ago

This month was a bit messy: Most of my books were still hidden in boxes and I seldom had a quiet moment to just sit and read.
But I did anyway: I read a few little books I found here and there (poetry mostly) and some stupid, funny novels I had for ages. I read, and it helped to get me relaxed, but it’s nothing worth mentioning here.

June: Khaled Hosseini - The Kite Runner 6 months ago

What a great book! I really couldn’t put it down and loved reading it.
You were right about that, Steph!

May: Khaled Hosseini - A Thousand Splendid Suns 6 months ago

I knew beforehand that it wouldn’t be a light a fun read. But once I started reading it, I really started to enjoy it. Not that reading of a life in wartime was so enjoyable. But the way it was written was and the little details that made life bearable. I couldn’t put the book away in the end.
A great read!

May: Judith Kern - Das Leuchten des Sanddorns 7 months ago

My mother chose this book for me, I wouldn’t have chosen it myself, but I’m glad she took it. It was quite o.k., catching and interesting. The book tells the story about three generations of women on a german island during the two World Wars until today. A nice history lesson about an unpleasant subject.

April IV: David Safier - Mieses Karma 7 months ago

(Bad Karma)

My sister gave this book to me and I read it in a day. It was a lot of fun to read and I’ll definetely think twice before stepping on any ant in or around our house (there are plenty in our current house).

April III: Muriel Barbery - The elegance of the Hedgehog 7 months ago

This was a very good read. So nice, funny and touching. When I read the final pages I couldn’t hold back the tears.
There are few books that make me want to grab a pencil and mark a passage so that I can find it again later. I didn’t mark anything though… I’ll probably have to read it again then. ;-)

April II: Claudia de Breij - Krijg Nou Tieten 7 months ago

Sorry, I’m not going to translate this title… ;-)

I seldom read dutch books, but this time it was real fun to read actually. Written by a dutch comedian this book describes in a funny (but also shockingly true) way everything about having a baby. All the things that other pregnancy-books are not writing about, were covered in this book. After two pregnancies I recognized sooo many things and could only giggle (or remember with a few tears) how it was for me.
Also when I read this, I thought about having a third child and almost couldn’t wait to get pregnant again. Having this feeling again and a very small little person in my arms… Sigh…
But whenever I got distracted by my two little angels from reading this book, I thought about having only two arm to hold (or grab) them and only two knees for them to sit on. For now, I’m good. ;-) But I liked reading (and dreaming) about it nonetheless.

April: Anna Gavalda - Ensemble c'est tout 8 months ago

What a wonderful book! I loved to read it, it was so wonderfully written and I was quite sad that it actually had to end. While I read, I always thought that it would be a great movie – and of course there already IS a movie (with Audrey Tautou). I’m curious about it now and would love to read more of this author as well.

March: Jaume Cabré - Les veus del Pamano 8 months ago

I read the german translation (my spanish is not well enough…) and like it a lot. Not a pleasant book to read, but still thrilling and very sad.
My next book is a spanish book again – I hope it’s a bit more pleasant
