I began the day with a little reading on Sir Francis Walsingham which led me to an article on the much debated Ridolfi Plot to assassinate Queen Elizabeth I. Near the end of the article it mentioned that Thomas Howard, 4th Duke of Norfolk, was executed in June of 1571. Well duh…everyone knows that he was beheaded on June 2nd, 1572! He wasn’t even arrested until September 1571.
The error has been corrected and the masses can sleep well tonight.

My name is Kurt and I am a Wikipedia addict. Like most addicts, I start off as a small time user: maybe an article on the War of 1812 or Stanford White to liven up a Friday evening. Nothing major, just a little something to “take the edge off the day”.
I was in control back then…I really was. But then more articles began to appear, and I gobbled them up like so many pieces of intellectual candy. Before I knew it, I was reading about the Yom Kippur War, the Golden Gate Bridge, tuberculosis, and the Romani people.
I thought if I donated money to Wikipedia I could absolve myself of responsibility. 50$ here, 20$ there…I could buy my way out, right? Soon I started finding misspelled words, grammar mistakes, run on sentences, and worst of all, incorrect facts! An addict can not live with this…not with Wikipedia.
I have decided to take the plunge, like Timothy Bottoms in the Paper Chase, and move into the “top third”. I’m going to edit more articles, correct grammar, eliminate vandalism, and generally make my intellect heard.

Thank you for listening.
