When I was a girl my Grandma had these 2 blankets that were knitted squares sewn together and then quilted and bound. Whenever we went over there and I needed a nap or was chilly, she gave me one of these blankets and I would snuggle underneath and sleep like a baby. It was the most comforting thing ever. I loved the warmth and also the texture of all the different wools she used.
When we cleaned up her house after she died we didn’t find them. I don’t know what happened to them…
So I have decided to make one. :o) I enjoy knitting but can really only do the basics. My husband and I have enough scarves, so I thought I would start knitting squares. They don’t take long, and it is something I can do in front of the TV in the evenings to keep my hands busy and keep me out of the kitchen.
So far I have knitted 2.5 squares. :o) I find it very relaxing and therapuetic to sit of an evening and knit. The last week has been quite dramatic in my household (my husband is recovering from a collapsed lung) so it has been nice to be able to chill out with something relaxing.
Ross wants a quilt as well, so I will do enough squares to make 2. I am really enjoying the process and look forward to being able to put this all together.
