Organize my 72 Hour Kit for Emergency Preparedness

I purchased an iPhone app to hold my passwords/secure info (encrypted and all that, of course). I’m putting in passwords as well as account numbers/phone numbers etc. so in case of fire or loss of wallet, etc. I at least know where to call to cancel things and what my account numbers are.

time to get busy on this

I got some new underwear this weekend, so I’m going to downgrade a few pair that I will set aside for this kit. I just need to get a box or something to collect these items as I slowly fill it up…

I finally set up a spreadsheet tonight with all my credit card numbers, expiration dates, and 1800 numbers to call. I figure this is good in any case, were my wallet to get stolen, i would wnat this in one place. I plan to add banking information, insurance information, etc. print it out and put a copy in our lock box, so I have it all in one place if needed.

National Readiness month or whatever is September, so my goal is to get this completed over the summer.

Things the Government suggests putting in your kit:

three days water per person
three days food
hand crank radio
flashlight and extra batteries
first aid kit
whistle
dust mask, plastic sheeting, and duct tape
moist toilettes, garbage bags, and plastic ties (for personal sanitation, hard to think about, but good idea)
wrench or pliers to turn off utilities
can opener
local maps

other stuff to add:
medication
pet food
documents
cash
sleeping stuff
extra clothing
matchs
personal hygeine items
mess kits and paper eating supplies
paper and pencil
books and games
plastic jewelry to trade with trolls

(ok, the last one I added…I liked that a friend put that in her adventure bag in case she ended up in the movie Labryinth)

I have lots of this random stuff at home. I need to get the tub and start filling it.

Car title, SSN card, etc. I have a few days off coming up, and I would like to put an envelope together that has a copy of our bank and credit card statements (so we have a copy of our account numbers). We did get a disaster radio for Christmas (crank handle for power, alarm, etc.) so at this point, I think we need one of those big tubs to put it in and canned food.

Maybe I’ll focus on the official list of what goes inside and getting the tub when I’m back from vacation.

putting my social security card and passport IN the safe I bought my husband and I for V day…doesn’t do any good when the safe is empty and the SS card is sitting on my v. messy desk (like it is right now)
