26. Jiří Žáček – Rhymes for a Cat (Short poems by a Czech author. Very good ones, very funny and nice to read. 100%)

27. Jiří Žáček – Trifles (Again short poems by a Czech poet. Again very kind, ironic, funny and true… Maybe I shouldn’t count such a short books, but I just want to mention them and I’m sure I will make more than 30 this year, so I think it’s OK. 100%)

28. Jean Giono – A man who plant the trees (Beautiful and wonderful book… For the first time I heard it as a told story in my secondary school when our teacher bring it for us. Then I bought the book and read it. Some years later again. And now I got it for my birthday from my friend. And I couldn’t resist and read it again. I love that story! 100% for sure!)

21. Stephen King – Carrie (I don’t like this author very much, but I read this book because we decided so with other people in a book club. I didn’t enjoy the book very much and I was happy when the reading was done. Anyway, there are definitely even worse books. 60%)

22. Robert van Gulik – Necklace and Calabash (I have never heard about this author and book, but I take a part in a book swap where detective stories were swapped. So I bought this book for my swap partner because it looked interesting and I was so curious that I read the book before sending. It was quite good. 80%)

23. F. M. Dostojevsky – Tender (I’m not sure if the translation is good. It was a novella by this classic author and it was very good, I would say. 80%)

24. F. M. Dostojevsky – Landlady (Again a novella and again not sure with the translation, I’m sorry. And this one was even better than the previous one. 90%)

25. F. M. Dostojevsky – Young Hero (Again not sure… The shortest story from the four I have now, and so far the weakest one. But maybe I just wasn’t concentrated too much. 80%)

18. Ian McEwan – Atonement (I read this book before I watched the movie and it was excelent. I enjoyed it all the time – and I read it quite long time because I travelled a lot that time and had not so much time for reading. After taht I watched the movie which was great as well. 95%)

19. Frederick Forsyth – The Dogs of War (Anther book by my favourite author and excellent as every other. The great story and what’s more I learned a bit about Africa, colonies etc. 90%)

20. Ira Levin – A Kiss Before Dying (Very good book, which I read during one day. Yes, it was really so suspenseful! :-) 90%)

16. George Orwell – 1984 (Very good and terrifying book, I’m glad I have read it. 90%)

17. Geoffrey Chaucer – Canterbury Tales (I had to read this book til my exam of British Literature and I was quite stressed because I didn’t have enough time. Finally I managed and I liked the book a lot, but I suppose that if I had more time for that I would enjoyed it much more. 85%)

13. Tom Stoppard – Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead (This drama was written by a British author of a Czech origin, I had no idea about that! I had to read this for my British literature class and unfortunatelly I have to admit that I didn’t like it very much. The influence of Samuel Beckett was quite obvious and it was really boring for me and quite difficult to follow. 60%)

14. John Osborne – Look Back in Anger (Another drama and another play for British literature class. And one more I didn’t enjoy very much. Well, it was not so bad but I suppose I would prefer to read it in different time. 75%)

15. Jean Effel – Fablettes (I don’t know the English name of this charming book, so I wrote the original one. I just read it because I need some pause from the school stuff. It’s quite thick book but with only little writing so I’m not sure if I should count it, but… It was really nice. Short fables, in one page one beautiful illustration and one or two sentences, usually very funny but sometimes also thought-provoking. 100%)

10. John Fowles – The Collector (Very interesting and readable book, I’m happy I discovered it and can really recommend it for others. 90%)

11. Thomas hardy – Tess of d’Urbervilles (It was such a wonderful book! I loved it! The reading took me quite long because the story was very depressive and I started to cry many times while reading…but it was so touchy in such a beautiful way! 100%)

12. Frederick Forsyth – The Shepherd (Very short, rather story than a book. But it was nice, mysteryous and thrilling. Why not? 85%)

Read so far... 8 months ago

I study English and this semestre I have subject called British literature so I have to read some books for this class – that’s why there are some English classic books on my list :-)

Since the begining of the year 2009 I have read:

1. William Golding – Lord of the Flies (very interesting, I liked it… 85%)

2. Frederick Forsyth – The Negotiator (my favourite author, so I really enjoyed this book and can recommend it! 90%)

3. Samuel Beckett – Waiting for Godot (well, not so bad, it’s short so one can read it really fast, which is nice, because it’s a bit boring and about nothing – at least in my opinion… 80%)

4. David Herbert Lawrence – Lady Chatterley’s Lover (my first book by this author and a very nice surprise for my, I liked it a lot! :-) 95%)

5. Emily Brontë – Wuthering Heights (well, quite nice but nothing special for me… I know many English speaking people adore this book so maybe there is something lost in the translation??? Anyway, it was a nice experience. 85%)

6. Jack Higgins – The Eagle Has Landed (very suspenseful, very interesting, helped me to learn something new about history, a bit slow beginning… 88%)

7. Wolfgang Johann Goethe – Faust (I wanted to read a real classic book so I chose this one… Well, the first pard was very nice, I enjoyed it a lot, very nice story etc… But the second part was very confusing, too many (for me) unimportant characters. I was not able to follow the story and I got totally lost. It took me almost two months to finish it and I’m really happy it’s over now! :-) 70%)

8. William Shakespeare – Much Ado About Nothing (Shakespeare, no need to say more :D 80%)

9. William Shakespeare – Othello (85%)

I love books! 8 months ago

I love books and I love reading, but since I’ve had a laptop I spend much more time browsing the internet and so on and I read less and less. I used to read a lot but last year I read only about 15 books which is really not enough for me. So this year I would really love to read at least 30 books or even more. I hope I will manage…
