I spoke to my Maun friend again. He says that the road to Maun is in a very good condition, albeit long and straight! Apparently there’s a backpackers’ lodge about 10km out of town, with camping facilities. I checked. He’s right. And they’re remarkably cheap, too! Only expensive thing is the fuel to get there! I’ll have to start saving!

As the result of a terrible error in judgement, I have almost no money with which to complete the cosmetics project. No, I’m not going to borrow anything, but I might get some friends in on the deal and find out how to do this well without breaking the bank… Can’t be that difficult, with the right people involved!
The VW Beetle is 75 years old this year, and as a result the South African Mint is planning a big rally to commemmorate the event and launch a nice new coin. Anyway, I plan to be there as well, so now I HAVE to get the cosmetics on Goggo done by 20 June 2010! So at least I’ll have a bug that LOOKS good…
I have a friend who is a pilot in Maun. He has convinced me to come to Botswana some time. There is only one rub – Botswana is a massive country, with much of it wilderness! I don’t know if Goggo will be able to make it, but it won’t be for lack of trying!
A friend of mine informed me that the original 3 months I set aside for this road trip will not be enough. She maintains that since this is the kind of venture one attempts only once in a lifetime, it should be done leisurely and in style…
So that means I’ll have to be able to kiss any bosses goodbye before I do this kind of thing, and the person whom I plan to drag along should be able to do the same…
There are only a few places in South Africa where I haven’t been, but I haven’t seen as much of SOUTHERN Africa as I want to… A VW Beetle is a sturdy little car and I reckon mine would be able to make this trip with ease… Now to find me a driving partner who would be prepared to travel on the back roads with me…
