It’s been three years and I’ve been working to get involved in this. It took a messed up dress off ebay, to realize in order to get the right fit I’ll have to make it myself. And then my sisters were interested so I spent a good two years sewing things for them, sewing for my mom. I would have gladly paid a good seamstress just for my things, but instead of blowing all the money me, I saved it by sewing my things, so that they could have clothes too. I spent so much money on just making sure they all have the right underpinnings, dresses, bonnets, hats, stockings, even coats now. And I’ve been a little high and mighty at times at wanting to be “More Authentic” and I now realize if I ever want to get involved and attend reenactments for more then just a day, I am going to draw the line and say “good enough for now.” I no longer worry if I look like a person of the era, but others seem to think I still worry about this and I don’t see how?
But I came to this conculision a little too late for this year reenacting season and I will have to work harder on getting together the camping things need for it, trying to find a way to make this hobby pay for it self so I can be apart of it and not go broke after one weekend. :( And maybe just maybe if I work hard enough I can actually get to “play” next year and my attitude will be to others liking. It’s disappointing three years later and still waiting, oh well hopefully before I am forty and in bad shape I can finally get to achieve this.
