Our muscadine vines are loaded and since I’m not a jelly/jam maker myself and there are only so many muscadines one could consume I called our local retirement village. They think it would be a good activity for their local residents to spend the day making muscadine jelly. So I’m off to the woods with a gathering blanket and I’m about to shake some trees to deliver the bounty which I promised to deliver tommorrow.

I have this friend who has really been down on her luck. I’ve tried to give her money but she just won’t accept it. She appears to be losing alot of weight and I’m worried she doesn’t have money for food. So last week I went grocery shopping, filling a huge box full of goodies which I mailed to her. Today she called crying and said that she had been munching happily all day, said she hadn’t been that full in a long time. I think I’m going to do this alot more often for her.
Went and dropped off three individual bags of apples to three wonderful housebound women. I had learned through their caregiver that they had been craving fried apple pies which she promised to make them if I would deliver the apples. She was peeling the apples & they were instructing her how they used to make the pies as I left. =)
Our apple trees are loaded this year, too many for our family of four to eat. This morning I went out and picked 5 huge bags of apples and took them to our local domestic violence center. They were very grateful and it was nice to see all the children munching away as I was leaving. I hope to do this again when our pears and muscadines come in later on this summer.
I talked to a friend of mine this morning, whom I had been trying to reach for over a week. He informed me that he had been living without water, electricity or food for about three weeks but had gotten a little bit of money yesterday and had gotten everything turned back on and went to the grocery store. I have been searching all morning on the net to find his utility providers as I want to call them and put some money toward his next bills in hope that this won’t happen again until he get’s his feet back on the ground. He would never tell me this information himself but I keep running into a blank wall. He lives in a rural area and when I pull up his town I get over 10 providers for the area. Maybe I should try the Chamber of Commerce? See if there is a local newspaper? I’m not giving up….I will help my friend out, even if I have to hop in the car & take a roadtrip. Any suggestions?
An older lady friend of mine has recently became ill and housebound. This morning after sending my kids off to school, I made her and her husband a full southern breakfast and delivered it to them. She got tears in her eyes when she saw the loaf of homemade banana nut bread and told me she hadn’t been able to make bread in months and banana bread was her favorite. I think I’ll be visiting & baking for Mrs. K alot more often, she’s a wonderful lady!
