Well, I had all the fabrics prewashed and just sitting and waiting for me to get to them. I also had the pieces for my son’s sweatpants pinned out and ready to be cut. Hubby asked what I was going to do and I told him to make the call…lol. So, over the past 3 days, I have cut the background fabric in half (perfect amount bought..woohoo!), I have cut the burgundy for the sail shapes and added the 1/4” allowance that I then ironed under – this will be a MAJOR applique project rather than piecing everything – AND, I cut out all the lettering (also with the 1/4” for turning under). I have handbasted 2 of the sail pieces (there are 5 sail pieces total) and 2 of the letters (I’m starting from the end of the lettering, mainly to make sure that I have enough space on each side of this monstrosity).
I was planning on hand-basting some more tonight, but I have a sick child who needs to take a nice warm soak, and is right now doing the promised water color painting at the dining room table (perfect height for me to use for hand-basting).
I will probably get back to work on it tomorrow while she is staying down drinking her juice and having soup and medicine.
This is actually getting my creative juices stirring, even though it is rather dull in color (went with dark green background, burgundy sails, grey lettering).
AND…talking with my Dad, the fact that a family member does not have a panel in the NAMES project has led to another project – this one a collaboration between father and daughter. We are going to individually come up with ideas for the panel and then combine the parts that we like from them….I’m the quilter, he’s the paint artist…something good will come of this!
