Entry 13?! 8 months ago

I remember when I adopted this goal, I read other posts and was astonished that anyone could write more than three or four entries about it. It’s sleep and snoring and drooling on the pillow, just how much could one person write about that??

So, I’ve practically given up on this already. I set myself some rules regarding bedtime a while a go that I haven’t stuck to at all. Over the last week I’ve gone back to getting into bed at about 2am every night, although I have fallen asleep quickly which is new – still not great though. :(

I need to work on this messy mentality I have that sleep is a part of the day I can do without because I obviously can’t.

Whirl 9 months ago

My average bed time for this week or so has been about 11-11.30pm. There have been a couple of 1am’s but on the whole I’m getting there, slowly. (I’m ignoring my previous entry regarding those ‘rules’ I set myself, shhh about that.)

There’s a tired period I have until about 12-1am and if I’m still not asleep then I’m normally awake for hours after. I totally wake up and am not tired enough to sleep, which is really where I’ve been going wrong for the last however many years. Lying wide awake only resulted in me resenting sleep in general which made me never want to go to bed, early or otherwise. It’s a stupid self-caused spiral of… fhgsldfj.

Anyway, I’m on my way out of it I think. I hope.

A breeze but blustery outside 9 months ago

I was in bed between 9 and 10pm last night and fell asleep at about 11.30pm. I also forgot to set my alarm, but woke up naturally at 7.30am which I’m totally stoked about. :D

Ergh 10 months ago

3am…. I had so much to do this evening, I simply couldn’t go to bed earlier. Well, I could have done if I’d prioritised better earlier in the week but meh. Goodnight. >_<

Oh sigh... 10 months ago

I haven’t stuck to my rules.
For the last few nights I’ve gone to bed at 12.30/1am with the TV on, not read or listened to Radio 4 and fallen asleep at about 2am.

So, I shall start again this evening. Early shower, in bed by 8.30pm. Well, that definitely won’t happen… in bed by 10pm at the latest.

I’m not sure I’ve been approaching this in the way it suggests.

I’ve been following the ‘rules’ I set myself a few days ago and it’s been working like a charm in terms of how quickly I fall asleep. I’ve read a little, then tuned into Radio 4 and at the most it’s taken twenty five to thirty minutes to fall asleep. On average it’s taken about fifteen minutes which astonishes me. If I have ever fallen asleep that quickly I was certainly far too young to appreciate it.

I’ve been going to bed between 12.30am and 1am usually, although a little improvement it’s still not as early as I’d like.

I need to set myself some rules 11 months ago

Over the last five or six nights I’ve not gone to bed before 2am, and haven’t fallen asleep until, at the earliest, 3.30. One night I fell asleep less than half an hour before my alarm woke me.

Rule 1 – No TV after 10pm. Although I don’t really watch, I’m more of a listener, I suspect the changing light doesn’t help me fall asleep.
Rule 2 – Read. As I’ve gotten older I find I read more during the day, and hitting the sack so late means I’m normally shattered and can’t be bothered to read before I sleep.
Rule 3 – Less of those ‘modern beat bands’ (as my Dad would say). I have trouble sleeping in complete silence so normally nod off with the TV or radio on. I’ve always had music stations playing which I’m not sure helps. So BBC Radio 4 is my new best friend.

Ta-dah! 11 months ago

I was in bed at 10pm yesterday (PROUD!).
Now, although I was still awake until 12.15-ish, something must have worked, that’s the earliest I’ve fallen asleep in a long while. I’m still not totally rid of flu which may have had a little influence but I was awake very early this morning and haven’t felt my usual tired slump mid-afternoon today. Progress!

Not yet but soon 11 months ago

This is on hold until I’m less ill (Santa brought me germs on Christmas day). My sleep pattern is totally wrecked, but on a plus point I’m hardly sleeping at all so once I’m over this bug I’ll be too tired not to got to bed earlier. sneezesneezesneeze

Open eyes and busy hands 12 months ago

I’ve realised that this isn’t even about being tired.
Last night I was shattered from quite early in the evening but instead of going to bed, at about 10pm I was looking for things to do.

Then I went to bed at 2.30am.
I’m not keen on ending the day. I resent giving up so much time to sleeping when I could be doing other things. I don’t seem to acknowledge how important sleep is. I’m not sure how I overcome that.
