Dear 43 Things Users,

10 years after introducing 43 Things to the world, we have decided we have met our last goal: completing the incredible experience that has been 43 Things. Please join us in giving one last cheer to all the folks who have shared their goals with the world, as well as all the people who have worked at The Robot Co-op to build this incredible website. We won a Webby Award, published a book, and brought happiness to a lot of people.

Starting today, 43 Things users can export their goals and entries from the site. Starting August 15, we will make the site “read only”. 43 Things users will still be able to view the site and export their content, but we won’t be taking any new content from users. We hope to leave the site up for folks to see and download their content until the end of the year. Ending on New Year’s Eve takes us full circle.

It has been a long ride (one of our original goals was to "build a company that lasts at least 2 years” - we beat that one!) While we wish the site could live on, it has suffered from a number of challenges - changes in how people use the site, the advertising industry, and how search engines view the site. We wish the outcome was different – but we’ve always been realistic about when our goals are met and when they aren't.

As of today, you will be able to download your goals and entries. See more about that on the FAQ page. Thanks for 10 great years of goal-setting and achieving.

A Life in Words

Bill Austin once said… “When people search for “Life Quotes” they are often looking for quotes about life. Why do the major search engines only give them hundreds of pages of commercial garbage about Life Insurance Quotes?”

The truth is – society is so geared towards preparing for our death by insuring our livelihood that we get distracted from actually ‘living’ this life that has been entrusted to us. I think this goal was a great reality check to actually ponder the questions, direction and purpose of life. To empower myself with a greater clarity of what life serves to each of us daily and a fuller comprehension of the power we each have to charter the course of our lives and determine our ultimate destiny.

Richard Bach

If you love something, set it free; if it comes backs it’s yours, if it doesn’t, it never was

Joseph Addison

Honor’s a sacred tie; the noble mind’s distinguishing perfection that aids and strengthens virtue where it meets her, and imitates her actions where she is not

William Arthur Ward

The mediocre teacher tells. The good teacher explains. The superior teacher demonstrates. The great teacher inspires

Lisa Hand

That’s what it takes to be a hero, a little gem of innocence inside you that makes you want to believe that there still exists a right and wrong, that decency will somehow triumph in the end

Vince Lombardi

The difference between a successful person and others is not a lack of strength, not a lack of knowledge, but rather in a lack of will

John Fitzgerald Kennedy

As we express our gratitude, we must never forget that the highest appreciation is not to utter words, but to live by them

Christian Furchtegott Gellert

Live as you would have wished to live when you are dying

Charles Dickens

things that never die The pure, the bright, the beautiful That stirred our hearts in youth, The impulses to wordless prayer, The streams of love and truth, The longing after something lost, The spirit’s yearning cry, The striving after better hopes- These things can never die. The timid hand stretched forth to aid A brother in his need; A kindly word in grief’s dark hour That proves a friend indeed; The plea for mercy softly breathed, When justice threatens high, The sorrow of a contrite heart- These things shall never die. Let nothing pass, for every hand Must find some work to do, Lose not a chance to waken love- Be firm and just and true. So shall a light that cannot fade Beam on thee from on high, And angel voices say to thee- “These things shall never die

E E Cummings

It takes courage to grow up and become who you really are
