learn to play piano

eric clapton version of “Nobody knows you when you’re down and out”. very bluesy. good stuff. attention is now being directed to my elton john songbook. i think i’m going to start with “I guess that’s why they call it the blues”. so, for the record, i know two whole songs on piano and currently learning the third. what a blast!

i can play “oh christmas tree” all the way through and with both hands! i love learning a new song on any instrument. then i love playing that song repeatedly. after playing it a bunch, i get sick of it and move on to something else. but, by then, i’ve commited that song to memory. i wonder what my next song will be…

learning to read the sheet music is coming along nicely. there was a time when i could do this very well, and it’s beginning to come back to me. i can’t do both hands together yet, but just using one is fun for the time being. “oh, christmas tree” and other holiday songs are on my plate right now. yes, i’m aware that the season has passed. but, they’re relatively simple songs, plus i know the melodies by heart and that helps.

just moved in with my inlaws, and besides the fact that there is very little room to breathe here, there are a few new instruments to have fun with. one of them is a piano. i have always wanted to learn to play this thing and now’s my chance. plus, my sister-in-law can read sheet music (sort of). so, if i need some pointers she just may be able to help a brother (-in-law) out. here we go: C, D, E, F, G, A, B. low C, middle C and high C. just learned these things last night. i can’t read/write music even though i’ve played guitar for over a decade. this should be fun!
