I got my braces off! 19 months ago

The braces came off on wednesday, it’s pretty exciting. On thursday I got my retainer…which was kinda annoying as I was just getting used to not having extra stuff in my mouth! However, the retainer is really thin plastic and it only covers my teeth so it’s not really all that annoying. I have to wear it for 3 weeks full time, then just at night.

The entire process took 16 months, which is great because I was originally told it would be 18 months! I can’t believe I can smile and not worry about my teeth!

Getting my braces off? 20 months ago

I got my braces tightened again this week. My teeth were a little sore, but not enough to really bother me.

Apparently this is the last time they need to be tightened and I will be getting my braces off at the end of May!!

I feel excited about it, except I’m still not happy with my two front teeth. They look straight, but if you look at them from below, you can see that one of them has been pushed behind the other. Hmm.

So I’ll see if the new wires I got this week fix that, and if they don’t I guess I might need to wait a little longer to get them off, which is sad. But this is costing thousands of $$$ so my teeth have to be perfect at the end.

I had my braces tightened yesterday. The dental nurse managed to rip open an ulcer that was healing, it’s pretty sore, making it difficult to eat much. Still got powerchains on too.

My teeth hurt, but I love my braces! Less than a year to go now! Just under 8 months left. My teeth aren’t quite right yet, so I can’t wait to see them keep moving.

Still going well :) 2 years ago

I got power chains on my braces a few weeks ago. They’re meant to close the gaps between my teeth. I never used to have any gaps at all but the braces opened up some really big gaps.

So far the chains seem to be working with a vengence. It’s amazing how fast teeth can move.

I’m still loving my braces. After spending 3 months in India where many people had terrible teeth, had never heard of braces and thought they were jewellary…it made me even more grateful that I have the ability to fix my teeth!

Worth it 2 years ago

I got my braces tightened again today. They are a little sore, but nowhere near unbearable. It seems like so long ago that I wanted desperately to fix my teeth. I used to be so afraid of getting braces.

I really don’t have an issue with my braces. I actually quite like them because it’s a little unusual to have braces at 21.

I’m almost halfway through my treatment, and I’m not even in a rush to get them off. I’m so glad I decided to do this. I’m also really grateful that I can afford to.

Getting better! 2 years ago

Well that tooth at the back of my mouth which has been giving me so much grief has almost recovered. It still hurts a little bit, but the pain is definately bearable, especially compared to how it was last week, and I can eat most cold things now.

The braces are going well! Within 8 days my two front teeth moved! Originally one overlapped the other but now they are almost completely straight! It’s really exciting, because they look how they used to be when I was younger and had straight teeth.

I haven’t told any of my friends that I got braces, apart from Ally, who I have knowm since we were 4 years old. She asked me how long they were on for and I said ‘18 months’ and she made a comment along the lines of, “Well don’t worry, thats not very long” in a comforting, almost pitying way. And even though she meant well, it was kind of a downer, because I’m still really excited about my braces, but she just seemed to jump to the conclusion that I detest them.

That is why I haven’t told anyone else. I don’t want anyone to rain on my parade.

Braces 2 years ago

I got my braces on on the 3rd of January! They are going alright at the moment. I was recently offered 2 part time jobs, and as luck would have it, I got my braces on the Wednesday, had the orientation for one job on thursday and orientation for the other job on friday! So it’s been pretty hectic.

The only drama at the moment is that one of my back teeth is giving me hell. It’s right at the back of my mouth and doesn’t actually have any braces or anything attached to it. But it started out just having a severe sensitivity to cold foods and drink, and then progressed to a severe sensitivity to just about anything unless the food is really hot and gluggy. The pain is absolutely unbearable, and even though I feel hungry all the time, I have absolutely no desire to eat because this tooth hurts so much when I do.

So it looks like I’ll need a trip to the Dentist this week!

Spacers 2 years ago

I got spacers put on my teeth today! I was so excited to finally be getting started on the whole braces experience after such a looong wait. It was a bit of a let down, because it only took about 30 seconds for the spacers to be put on, as they only went on two of my bottom teeth.

So far so good, it’s been about 12 hours and I haven’t had any real pain from them yet! For the first 8 hours my teeth felt no different, then they developed a dull ache which has gone away again now.

5 days until I get the actual braces on!

Excited! 3 years ago

I had my first Orthodontist appointment on the 12th of October! It was quite exciting after waiting three months to see them! They had a sign up on the front desk welcoming the patients who were having their first appointments on that day, and my name was there. That was a nice touch I think.

They took photos of my teeth from all different angles, and took several x-rays. They also took photos of my face from three different angles. Apparently I was tilting my head over to one side, they kept having to straighten it! But it felt straight to me! My dentist told me a while ago that he thinks the head tilt is because of my crooked teeth.

Then the Orthodontist came and examined my teeth. Both the orthodontist and the treatment co-ordinator were very friendly and professional. Even though it was such a long wait, I am so glad to be going to this particular orthodontist. I left after the appointment feeling on top of the world.

I haven’t told anyone except my parents that I am getting braces, and ever since my initial appointment I have carried this secret around inside me with a happy, warm glow. I never thought I would be so excited about getting braces!

January 3rd is the big day, which is the only draw back as it is another loooong wait. The braces I chose are quite small and the ones on my front teeth will be clear.

Still waiting! 3 years ago

We so far there haven’t been any cancellations at the orthodontist, so the worst case scenario is that I will still have to wait until October. But I’m hoping and praying I can get in to see him before that. Especially as I have wisdom teeth that may need to be removed before the braces…adding even more delays.

I’m getting a little too obsessed. So far I’ve only told my parents and one friend that I’m getting braces. I started back at uni today and the first thing I wanted to tell everyone is that I’m getting braces! But I’m holding off at the moment, thinking maybe I won’t tell anyone until I actually have them on. Just because I’m so self conscious about my teeth that I can barely talk about them with anyone. Once I have braces on though, it’s like, well my teeth will still look bad, but at least I’m doing something about it.
