I watched it this evening on TV. I had never seen it, and out of the synopsis my partner read me (about an average Joe seeing a white light), I didn’t know anything about it. Whether they’re perfect or not, if there’s a minimum of quality, I love that kind of movies, that go at the boundaries of what de know about ourselves and our possibilities. That, or signs, or Powder, to name them, are like the light in the dark. These movies make me think, about the perception we have, and from one being to the other, it’s different, with about 90% in the average; but what about the others? Are they wrong? I think about Einstein, and others like him, and their special made brains. It made me feel too, lots of things I can’t express, it’s inside. Maybe because I hope this kind of mystery magic advanced from the average, very, and good energy for us, could be real.
Honestly, when I think of the human race, I’m disgusted. But when I think about the human mind potential, I’m in awe. I wish I was intelligent enough to study the human brain, in terms of connections with openess.
Scully has written 19 entries about this goal
Disco: French movie, very stupid, no scenario, bad characters, bad acting, barely talking about disco. A damn shit. Seen with Fox. We were so bored we wera talking while the movie.
Funny Games: The remake of the the movie, of the same movie. Narcissic concept. I still think this movie is useless, and I should have left indeed when they talked about it. The idea was good for a thriller though, it just lose itself in “reality”, it’s badly made. The acting is good. Seen with Fox. He finds it a shit. Seen in English.
Jackpot: An annoying typical Z American comedy. You liked “Self-Control”? Don’t go to see Jackpot. Seen with Fox. He finds it so-so.
Super Hero movie: like Scary Movie. I went to see this one knowing what I would see, and so I was less disappointed. The beginning is funny. There are some gags. It’s mostly very stupid, the kind big stupid, not thin stupid. Seen with Fox. He liked it… lol
Sans arme, ni haine, ni violence (No weapon, hate, or violence): French movie, about a big hold-up in the 70s. I found the idea interesting, but I expected too much a sort of “alive” Ocean’s 11, and I was disappointed because it’s actually about the guy who wants to catch the brain, years after. And it’s in the end boring. No rhythm. Seen with Fox, both bored.
Maradona: I don’t know if it’s the vomiting style of the movie that got on my nerves or if it’s I found it was a pseudo idealogical movie that bored me. I left after 50 min of movie. Some funny stuff, but really don’t expect much soccer or action. Half seen with Fox (I asked to leave).
Indiana Jones IV: A big disappointment (especially because I’m a big fan of the former movies). The beginning was ok, and then it turns weird, in that village… ? Too much effects, BIG stuff, it was, too big. Too many “good” characters, by good I mean the good and the evil. The dialogs lacked the humor and the thin situations, like in average movies, when they make their characters talk to endlessly explain what’s happening, as if they talked to idiots. The hero is here a pale hero. Even some effects look unrealisitic, like with the monkeys. I think it was big noise for not much. Seen with Fox. He was mortified lol He is a big fan too, and he loved “The last Cruisade”.
Iron Man: Classic action movie. Effects good. But I always feel bored in the end of these sort of movies. Seen with Fox. He liked it.
Fool’s Gold: Not a big movie, but in the end, less annoying that the former (in the list) I saw. I like these hunting treasure stuff, some good moments. Not exceptional but ok. Seen with Fox, he liked it equally, I think.
21: Interesting genius concept. There is a story, but it’s too often too predictable. Still interesting. Seen with Fox, and a friend. I think I liked it more. I liked the very end. Fox friend liked it well. Seen in English.
The happening: Story and direction frustrating. I felt it didn’t go to the limit it could’ve been, it’s even very far from it. The idea is tortured and interesting like often with Shyamalan, but it didn’t work with me. I’m sure it’ll be better as a book. There’s too much alternance of big slow whiles in betweens happenings, and it is not scary. It’s too bad because the topic is very important and scary for its reality. I have ambivalance of feeling for Shyamalan’s work. I loved Signs, and I adored Lady In The Water. But this one makes me the same thing as the village: nothing. I feel nothing watching the happening. Seen wit Fox. He was extremely bored. Seen in English.
Cash: French movie, à la Snatch. There’s that vague of movies since there was Snatch, with that kind of square funny fast direction. But here it’s really too slow. The first part of the movie, I didn’t know where it went. But the more it went, the faster, the better. This kind of movies with lots of participants, and you’re never sure what will be the final stuff. Story well made. Seen with Fox. We both liked it, maybe he a bit more. He had found the final answer.
Les insoumis: French investigation/action movie, going creshendo. Interesting, and also morally/society interesting. Story ok, action ok, acting good. Ok with me. Seen with Fox. He adored.
Then I hesitated which to put 1st between the 2 last. So I will put in 1 the one that surprised in good the more.
Battle in Seattle: About the WTO and what the world is becoming. Fictional characters on real events. Movie, and real images. The fiction only strenghten reality, giving emotion, life to facts. And is believable. Lots of questions, some answers. The moral is that every battle is to fight. It often doesn’t change much, but do nothing changes nothing, at all. I didn’t know much about this event, to me it was “history”, and so I realized the action, and how it might be from the inside, and I realized how less and less democratic the world is actually becoming. That is happening. It’s a movie that made me think. And it made me feel, too. Seen with Fox. I loved it more.
JCVD (Jean-Claude Van Damme): This was the huge surprise, a very good surprise. Intellectual action, smart, good story, good direction, the colors re-made was a good choice to me, it just gives a tone to the “box” we are all put in society, the label we are given bc of our appearence or what we’re thought to be, whether it’s what we really are or not. Good music, smart and beautiful choices. There’s also humor, good acting, Van Damme is really good. It made me think and feel too. Seen with Fox. We both adored.
XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX
I want to go more to the movies. Can we say I’m a movie buff?
I saw them this year.
From the one I liked the less to the one I liked the more.
Benjamin gates II: Disappointed. The first had been at least entertaining, the second is lazy. The scenario is a dump, very improbable, and what could’ve been good ideas become trash. I liked the desk stuff, the beginning. But that’s all. Not even the acting got me. but with such a scenario, even the actos must be bored.
Fox liked better. Entertaining enough, to him.
Bienvenu chez les chtis: (French comedy). Not bad, but not so good. Some things are definitely funny, yet some predictable. Basically, I’m surprised it’s closed to 17 millions tickets sold (not happened for a French movie since “La grande vadrouille”, and it was about 30 years ago). The duet Boone/Merad is good though. Maybe I expected MORE.
We were both a little disappointed.
John Rambo: If the idea was interesting, it reamins Rambo (ta ta ta ta ta ta ta ta ta..; well you got me). Some good action. If you liked Rambo before for action, and guts and blood, you’ll like this one too. Good point, it was short. Yeah, it’s MHO that it doesn’t need two hours to riffle everybody. I definitely prefer Stallone in other movies though.
Fox liked it the more.
Be kind, rewind: Original, sweet, funny, silly. Jack Black has some very good delirious, Mos Def isn’t bad either. The idea of re-making films this way is hilarious in the absolute. Not always funny, but good enough. Cute little movie. The end is memorable. Seen in English.
I liked it the more.
MR73: (French thriller) There’s work on that movie, and the ambition to do something good. I preferred “36”, because I think the scenario was better made. This one is uneven, some moments, you lose the rhythm. I think it’s the only bad thing I can say on this movie. I prefer that story though. The direction is good, the colors, a great performence by Daniel Auteuil. It’s dark, tortured, and it smells truth. Rather good.
We both found him uneven but rather good.
Chasseurs de dragons: (french/European anime) The story is simple and classic. Two losers go to fight the dragon that eats the wolrd, on a quest to kill him, and save the world. It’s also for children :) Characters rather classic too. The small who rants, the big guy a bit flower power, so to speak, the irrtating character (little girl), and the small funny animal.
However, the ideas for the decors is pretty unique, beautiful, poetic, it reminded me a bit the very end of “The never ending story”. Rabbits everywhere in the end made me laugh. It’s a proper universe. The anime is good!
We both liked it. Maybe me the more.
Taken: action a la Besson :) Sometimes it works, sometimes less (IMO). This times it works. The story is simple, and it’s not what is wanted the more i think. I love Liam Neeson. It’s showed hard, quick action, that made even some “baston” funny. Some good funny dialogs. It’s an action movie, and the action is good. I was entertained. That works for me.
We both loved this one.
Into the wild: So true story? Intersting, deep, but also freaky. An intersting trip, and also a question to the viewer, how far are you willing to go? I found it spiritual, I lived the story. The acting was good. I loved Hal Holbrook, really he was good, and he touched me. Beautiful too. And the end is both ugly and sublime. A big yes to Into The Wild. Seen in English.
I saw this one alone.
The Orphanage: It had been a while I had not seen a good fantastic movie. The direction is YES. I was afraid at some moments, and I’m usually not. I even jumped once. The story is good, it goes crenscendo, entertains with the mystery, more and more scary, going into the world of ghosts, of death. No blank. Horrible, even atrocious, but also spiritual and poetic, the end is for example. I found it so good I thought it was adapted from a book. Acting good. Some gloomy/mysterious second roles. Some suspence/intense moments. Excellent. Seen in Spanish.
We were 4 to see this one, with two people who don’t go to the movies as we go. One found it ok, the other good (horror fan). Fox found it good, the direction especially. I found it very good, for what he loved, but also the story, and the depth of it.
SPOILERS
So my partner buys DVDs Lol And last xmas he brought me this one, saying “i’m sure you’re gonna love this one”.
It’s Effroyables jardins (Dreadful gardens), a Jean becker movie (2003).
If you really intend to see this movie, don’t read too much.
A boy, Lucien, 14, is ashamed by his father, whose a respected teacher. he doesn’t understand why he’s got to make a fool of himself acting a clown. One day, André, who’s the best friend of his father, tells him how this vocation started. He tells him how at the end of WWII, he and his father did a little act of resistance, but got caught by the Germans, with two others they were thrown into a “hole” (like a well), waiting to be shot.
MEGA SPOILERS
This story is absolutely beautiful. It’s funny and serious in the same time. I think it was also original, and the boy will actually discover, as his father’s friend tells him their story, that you can act a clown, and look ridiculous, but that you can be someone good, and actually it means that you understand the meaning of life, and that our time is too short to bother being too serious. That you learn to be humble. The end is very emotional.
There’re several good actings in that movie, but one who’s an outstanding actor to me, one of the best certainly, André Dussolier.
This is one of my very favorite movies of all. I highly recommand it!
Our two heroes, Jacques Villeret and André Dussolier : http://images.43things.com/profile/583407xl.jpg
Spoilers
I know there’s a movie called “Cross my heart”. But I actually think it was inspired from another movie, a Jacques Fansten movie called La fracture du myocarde (1990), that is also translated as Cross my heart. But there’re actually two movies. And I think there’s also a movie from 198… something Lol called cross my heart, but that’s something all different.
The story is about Martin, 12, who finds his mother dead in her bed. he thinks she had a fracture of the heart. He starts by hiding it to everyone, because he’s afraid to go to the assistance, buthis friends at school find it out, and they’re gonna start helping him a very unusual way.
Literally, you translate it Fracture of the myocardium, which is impossible as you can only have a fracture of a bone. It’s really seen as children, with nonsense and innocence. It’s sad, but but depressing as if it was seen with adults’ eyes. It’s more about life actually. And friendship too.
SPOILERS
A movie which is actually a TV movie, once isn’t always, Mémoire d’amour (Love memory), by François Luciani (who also worked for the cinema after. It was his first movie). I loved the story. It’s about a little boy (Thomas, 7) whose parents are separated, so he’s “shared” between his mother and father. A day he’s with his father, doing sledge in nature, and he falls in a frozen lake.
MEGA SPOILERS
So as it’s a TV movie, I don’t know if you’ll get to see that one day. So the boy is brought to the hospital, with a body temperature that is very low, in a coma. It’s a movie that happens in 1989, I think. So I think science progressed since then. It takes a long time, difficult for the family for he wakes up. And when he does, he’s lost his “love memory”, can’t talk, can’t eat… It’s the story of the long recovery, that is beyond what science and the medecins can do, cure our emotional part, which is our energy as a being.
I don’t have much memory of the direction unfortunately, so I couldn’t tell.
I couldn’t find a picture of the movie, so I put a picture of the writer / director instead. He’s the second (long hair lol).
Harry Potter. I don’t like eveything in HP, especially now it’s coming to more difficutl story. I think I should read the whole story, now it looks ot be done. Yet, I can’t deny there’s a universe to it, a magic trip. Whatever JKR could take of what existed before, with her, it works, because the stuff maybe others who write well don’t have. You’re gonna laugh because I call it “the fluid”, this connection to all the thing.
I think the HP I prefer (movie) is The prisoner of Azkaban, I thought it was well thought, and it’s the first that’s dark. I liked the more funny and light two first though. And the ones after are enjoyable. I hadn’t loved really much the last The order of the Phoenix, and I still think they abuse of Sp. effects, in the end. But as I watched it yesterday, there’re things that are really well made, and interesting passages. There’s still magic. Yet that makes me want to read the books, and I was told even with my level of English I should take French. So I suppose it must be richer.
The day before yesterday I watched an older movie. It was on TV! See there’s not always shit on TV (often? :D). I watched Dr Strangelove, with Peter Sellers. It was funny and crazy. I loved the general in the assembly, what comic skills he had. The topic is interesting and important too, and still of actuality nowadays, unfortunately. But it’s more to have a good chuckle. At some moments it’s even hilarious.
That’s all for now.
There’re three I think. Thanks to Lucas and Spielberg Lol who helped me to grow up. And I can say I started writing a lot because I wanted to create the kind of stuff they did. I found this universe fantastic by the age of 12.
First, the two firsts Indiana JonesRaiders of the lost ark and The temple of doom, and also The Goonies. I think I loved/love these movies because there’re pure imagination, by this I mean, it looks like someone writing at their desk how it comes, likes this pursuit in the chariot (temple of doom). It’s exactly like the raw imagination I’ve had, but especially as a child, of adventure. For Indiana JOnes, the sotries are good, and also interesting, historical, philosophical. In these stories there’re good stories, good characters, and it looks real, what lacks to lots of movies of today, too much numeric. Numeric makes things easier and bigger, but also too superficial. There, you’ve got to be careful to details, on the décors, costumes, every little detail counts to make the difference. That’s what makes the difference between something ok, and something good, to me, that you ARE everywhere, on the set, in post-production, and as a director, writer, these who have the vision of what it’ll be, you know whom to choose for colleagues.
I watched it differently now, and I’m even more amazed. but as a child already, only in Raiders of the lost ark, see these beautiful shots in the desert, or in the beginning only, the realism of the ball pursuit, the décor of the cave, I found it very good. The temple of doom was a marvel too, and the atmosphere was as dark as it needed to be for this really spiritual opus.
BTW, I want to see ID 4, because the crystal skulls are one of the wonders I have, but I’m afraid it’ll be different in tersm of post-production. We’ll see.
When I watched these, I think I wanted to write like that. And now I’m grown-up, I think I’d like to direct it also. Lol. But I can’t do this. At least for now.
What I liked in the goonies is more or less the same things. It’s a dream story, and the good wins in the end. The undergrounds are really good, I like this passage a lot, you know, from an intuition they go in the mysterious down lol there’re traps, slides, the Fratellis behind, whom are funny, the beautiful boat. It’s a fantastic adventure again. That’s the other movie happening in Astoria. I’d like to go there it’s very beautiful.
And of course the musics are very good.
Yes, in fact, these movies are real, technically good, and they make us dream. That’s what I’d like to do.
We, movie-goers, have a rich childhood movie world LOL
So I discovered recently a movie my partner watched when he was younger.
MAJOR LEAGUE (and major league II, ut I prefer the first).
It’s about The Indians of Cleveland, a baseball team of losers, that’s gonna become champ. With Charlie Sheen, if you’re familiar with Hot Shot... Ok, it’s funny, I liked it, and maybe I didn’t LOVE it like him because I discover it with my grown-up eyes. It was interesting though, as I like movies about sport. I used to play softball in mid school, and I realized how much our teacher simplified the game! Really I didn’t think baseball was so difficult. Some good gags.
Also another movie he loves from his childhood is STAND BY ME. I loved this one. I found the kids weren’t bad, River Phoenix was sometimes even very good. There’s also Corey Feldman, wo’s in another movie I like, but i’ll make another entry. I was surprised a little he likes a “simple” story, by this I mean no explosions, no super-hero etc… I found it was a quite deep movie in fact. And sweet.
One of my favorite with some others. I think I’ve seen this movie at least 20 times when I was little Lol. It was on TV two days earlier, and I still like it very much, I wanted to watch it again!
This movie is KINDERGARTEN COP. It may not be the best Reitman’s movie, but to me :) I’m not even a fan of Schwarzy. It made/make me dream. First the place there’re, Astoria, looks to me as one of the more beautiful I’ve seen, it’s natural décor free, like Vancouver. Nothing can replace that. Then the story is not so complicated, funny, moving, the characters are attaching (hey, lots of children). I think work in the little section is something I’d like to do. There’s also that I’ve always loved unconventional/experimental way to proceed, like Kimble does. And of course there’s the evil that loses in the end, and some suspence. When I was a kid, it was what I wanted to write, what I wrote when I started, things like these. Oh yeah, and I had forgotten about that since then, but when I was 10/11, I wanted to be Joyce (Penelope Ann Miller).
I know what I’m gonna ask Santa Claus for xmas :D
