Deck furniture  — 1 year ago

We made our first furniture purchase for our new house—deck furniture! We liked the colors and the contemporary lines that seem to go well with our contemporary style house.

We ate our first supper at the new house, even though we’re weeks or months from actually moving, on this table—grilled eggplant sandwiches. Yum!

It’s wonderful sitting out on that deck. So wonderful that it may motivate us to move faster.

The master bedroom  — 2 years ago

I couldn’t fall asleep last night because I was designing our new master bedroom in my head. I designed it around this Van Gogh poster that has Starry Night and two other of his night scenes in one triptych that I found at art.com (the link breaks when I paste it in 43 Things). Lots of dark and medium blues and some golds.

My design included a comforter that existed only in my brain. I found a couple that aren’t exactly what was in my brain but might work:
Choice 1Choice 2

Any opinions? Any advice on selecting comforters? I’ve never done very well with that. The one we have on our bed right now? A Christmas themed one, which we like because it’s not too bulky. Pathetic.

Intro  — 2 years ago

You folks seem so friendly and helpful, I just had to add this Thing, even though I have other house / home goals on my list. We just bought my dream house—but we don’t close until mid-September, so I’m busily “decorating” my home on paper with inadequate or nonexistent measurements. Oh well, decorating on paper is cheap and mistakes are easily rectified.

I think I’m going to need emotional support when I realize that many of the pieces I’ve kept in our storage unit for years in anticipation of owning my dream house someday, still aren’t going to work. There are some that don’t suit my style or the house’s style and others that won’t have a place. Hopefully, it’s not as many pieces as I fear, but I really do want to be brave and get rid of stuff that doesn’t work for me. I think one of the reasons I haven’t made our current house into a home is that I hold on to too much stuff.
