Last entry 2 years ago

I’m clearing the decks for something, so I’m going to declare this done after this final report. I think I got what I needed from this Thing and I’m pretty happy with how my new years resolutions worked out. I’m realizing that it’s pretty hard to set really good ones that are going to be meaningful for a whole year—I’m only coming to that realization at this point of my life because this is the first time I managed to pay any attention to my new years resolutions after the first month!

I’ve gave up on two earlier in the year: run a 5k, the 2007 TBR Challenge

Completed three earlier in the year: prepare 2006 taxes for accountant, present at the Mobius conference, work through the book Lighten up my body—Lighten up my life

Here’s progress on the rest:

Practice Yoga
still doing this

exercise daily
I stopped logging it but I’m still doing it, which feels like true progress!

eat healthily
Continuing to improve here

Do NaNoWriMo
I’m giving up on this, which is sad. I really wanted to do it, but I really want to get some other things done, too, and this was getting in the way. Maybe next year.

host a party
we may do our first, very small, dinner party in the next couple of weeks

Read 50 books in 2007
Done!

Eat a salad (and one fruit) a day
This is working for me

present at the Missouri Library Association conference
Done!

watch 100 movies in 2007
84. I’ll probably make it.

make my bedroom and study peaceful, sacred spaces
won’t be done this year, but I’ve made progress and hope to complete them in the next few months

August report 2 years ago

Completed three: prepare 2006 taxes for accountant, present at the Mobius conference, work through the book Lighten up my body—Lighten up my life

Here’s progress on the rest:

Do NaNoWriMo

Eat a salad (and one fruit) a day

present at the Missouri Library Association conference
This is early next month, yikes! Better get my two presentations ready!

watch 100 movies in 2007
Up to 73, so I need to watch close to 7 a month the rest of the year. Doable.

make my bedroom and study peaceful, sacred spaces
My goal for late summer was to make the study functional and it’s pretty much there—less peaceful and sacred than I hoped, but I can still work on that

July report 2 years ago

I’ve given up on two, sigh: run a 5k, the 2007 TBR Challenge

Completed three: prepare 2006 taxes for accountant, present at the Mobius conference, work through the book Lighten up my body—Lighten up my life

Here’s progress on the rest:

Up to 67, feeling confident

make my bedroom and study peaceful, sacred spaces
New closets, now completely filled! And some plans to make progress on the study.

June report 2 years ago

Practice Yoga
this got buried in other things – want to do it at least two times a week in July

exercise dailyJune exercise

run a 5k
gave up on this—focusing on walking and cross-training instead

eat healthily
A bit harder while working from home, but I’m enjoying summer fruits and vegetables so that’s helping.

Do NaNoWriMo
Going to take something of a practice run on this—I find a book for writing a thorough outline of a novel in 30 days and I’m going to make that my creative project for the summer. I’m sure I’ll want to do a completely different project for NaNoWriMo, but at least I’ll have some recent experience of thinking like a novelist.

host a party
slowly moving in this direction

Read 50 books in 2007
finished 26, just over halfway which is about where I want to be

Eat a salad (and one fruit) a day
Doing well with the fruit, but missing the salad several days a week now that I’m not packing it in my lunch. Will work on doing better.

Do the 2007 TBR Challenge
Gave up.

Done.

May summary 2 years ago

Five month check-in

Practice Yoga
no classes until after I quit my job, but using my DVDs some and otherwise stretching

exercise dailyMay summary

run a 5k
gave up on this—focusing on walking instead (reached a replacement goal of walking 5K at one time the same weekend that I would have run my 5K)

eat healthily
Some stress eating during transition, but doing reasonably well. Starting to think about how this is going to work when I’m working at home—I haven’t been eating as well on weekends so this is a concern.

Do NaNoWriMo
Taking some notes for ideas

host a party
Maybe sometime this summer—house is nowhere near done, but it’s getting close to having enough furniture, dishes, etc, that we could make people comfortable so why not?

Read 50 books in 2007
finished 23, still in good shape to reach this goal

Eat a salad (and one fruit) a day
Missed a few days in May, but not many

Do the 2007 TBR Challenge
I’m seriously considering giving up on this—many of the books are not that high on my TBR list right now and other books are higher

prepare my 2006 taxes for the accountant by February 19, 2007
Done.

present at the Mobius conference
Next Wednesday! Mostly ready.

present at the Missouri Library Association conference
The two proposals were approved by the conference planning committee—haven’t heard whether the board approved that plan last week.

watch 100 movies in 2007
Up to 51 and may average more than two movies a week in the second half of the year

make my bedroom and study peaceful, sacred spaces
Not much new progress, but should improve with my more time to spend on house projects

lighten up my body—lighten up my life
Finished the book in March

March report 2 years ago

So, three months in, how am I doing on the Things I marked 2007 resolution?

Practice Yoga
Loving this

exercise daily
Here’s the summary.

run a 5k
Injured in March, but working to build a stronger foundation for running—there’s still a lot of time in 2007 to pull this off

eat healthily
Still doing pretty well on this—it’s taking on greater importance since I was hoping to run to lose weight. Now I’m thinking I need to lose weight in order to run without hurting myself.

Do NaNoWriMo
Too early to start

host a party
Too soon to think about this

Read 50 books in 2007
Up to 15, so good shape here

Eat a salad (and one fruit) a day
Missed one salad. And haven’t had one today, so maybe two. Otherwise, doing well with this.

Do the 2007 TBR Challenge
Still at two. And part way through a couple of others. So slightly behind, here.

prepare my 2006 taxes for the accountant by February 19, 2007
Done.

present at the Mobius conference
My name is in the program!

present at the Missouri Library Association conference
Working on two proposals—they need to be done next week.

watch 100 movies in 2007

make my bedroom and study peaceful, sacred spaces
Actually making some slow but good progress here. I should put some pictures up!

lighten up my body—lighten up my life
Finished the book in March

Two months 2 years ago

I just wrote a whole long entry here, but 43T logged me out and I lost it all. Not doing that again—so let’s just say I’m making some progress where I want progress made.

Monthly checkup 2 years ago

So, one month in, how am I doing on the Things I marked 2007 resolution?

Practice Yoga
  • took one class and bought a pass so I can go to ten more, whenever I’m available on Tuesdays and Thursdays at lunch—not this week, though
  • bought a Yoga DVD and used it 4 times
February goal: continue doing the class or DVD at least twice a week

exercise daily
Here’s the evidence. My least active day was today, as it turned out—only the walk to the train and back and a kind of incidental short run because it was just too darn cold to walk to the end of the drive for the mail.
February goal: least active day has a 20 minute walk in it

run a 5k
Started my own invented running plan, then converted to the Couch to 5k running plan and completed Week 1 of workouts.
February goal: do Weeks 2 and 3 of the Couch to 5k running plan, then decide if I want to do Weeks 4 and 5 as written or modify them to make that progress more slowly over a four week period.

eat healthily
I’ve done pretty well on this, even lost some weight. In February, I want to continue both following my food plan and losing weight, which may require some fiddling around with what I eat on workdays.

Do NaNoWriMo
Too early to start

host a party
Too soon to think about this

Read 50 books in 2007
Read 6 in January, so I’m over where I need to be. Read at least 3 or 4 more in February

Eat a salad (and one fruit) a day
I did this every day. My food plan has a salad and two fruits in it—I sometimes miss one of those fruits but I always make sure to get the other so that I can still say I’m doing this.

Do the 2007 TBR Challenge
Read two, which puts me one ahead of schedule. But I have a feeling I’d better stay ahead on this goal so I intend to read a third in February. But I’m not sure which one, yet.

prepare my 2006 taxes for the accountant by February 19, 2007
Uh. I better get cracking on this.

present at the Mobius conference
The rumor is my proposal was accepted and that I should get an official response this week.

present at the Missouri Library Association conference
Haven’t seen a CFP yet, but I anticipate one any day. So, in February, I should probably plan to at least write a draft of a proposal.

watch 100 movies in 2007
I saw 14 movies in January, largely because I took several days off and had two holidays. That’s way more than I’ll get in a typical month, so it’s good that I’m ahead of schedule. I should be able to watch 6 to 8 more in February.

make my bedroom and study peaceful, sacred spaces
I’ve got a slow start on this. I made some progress, it’s just not visible yet. I’m hoping I’ll start seeing that progress in February and move a little farther along.

lighten up my body—lighten up my life
I’d like to finish this book in February. I’m pretty close to the end, but I’m finding the exercises more interesting and I’m skipping fewer than I was in the middle. That’s okay—speed isn’t the issue; I want to get as much out of this as I can.
