be a good aunt

I have a new niece so now the pressure’s on. Emma (the oldest one) is calling me now and leaving me messages (with some prompting from her mother) “Wanna watch Island Princess?”. Very cute but guilt inducing because I am studying for finals right now. Ah well, it will all be over in two days and I can spend some quality time with Emma and Isabelle.

I babysat yesterday morning and it was a scream. There were ups and downs, crying and laughing, eating and singing. My favorite request from my niece: “Wanna play toys?”

Not on the part of my niece though. It’s my sister, she’s being a real bag. She called me Saturday a.m. and asked if I could babysit…on Saturday! I had to say no because of golf lessons and homework not because I was being spiteful. She got snotty and said, “That’s fine, I’ll just ask Debra instead!” [Debra is her sister-in-law] I think my sister is trying inspire some kind of competition about who can be the better aunt to Emma. And then when I told her I would like to get a chance to come and visit Emma, she said “Maybe.” It’s unfortunate that she has to drag Emma into the equation. How petty.
