This weekend has been really nice. I got to cook two lovely meals for my hubby and me: on Monday I made a pan-Asian/Indian meal of stir-fried sweet chili pork (hubby’s idea, after trying the sweet chili sauce I’d bought), curried vegetables (cauliflower, onions, and peas, which my husband and I both agreed were even better than the very tasty pork), and rice, which we had with a lovely red Zinfandel, and on Tuesday, baked ziti with sausage, served with garlic bread and a spring salad with dried cranberries and feta, with a white balsamic vinaigrette.
I LOVE to cook, to research recipes and try new foods, and I love to wander around gourmet grocery stores. I’ve gotten my husband into it too! On our day off, he’ll sometimes say, “Let’s go to Wegman’s and look around.” We get inspired by all the wonderful foods, pick out a couple of items, and go home and make something fabulous. We generally have sex for dessert. ;)

Now that we’ve finished the actual filming on our movie, I’m hoping to be able to cook for us more. I’ve been able to make dinner for the last two days, which is really nice. I have so much food in the freezer and fridge that I want to cook. Neither my husband nor I have been eating well during the movie. We just haven’t had time. Hopefully we can improve that and also start going for walks again. The dog will appreciate that, too. :)

I am not at all overweight, and I am not horribly unhealthy, but I feel like my body could use better food. Not necessarily low fat or calories, but more WHOLE. I’d love to incorporate more whole grains, yogurt, fish, and LOTS of fresh fruits and veggies (which I love). I’d also like to buy organic meat as much as possible. No need for all those antibiotics and hormones. I already only buy wild-caught fish (once you’ve seen a fish farm, and how they color the fish, etc. you don’t want farm fish anymore). I also just want to keep being more adventurous, and try exotic fruits/vegetables, imported cheeses, different breads, etc. I am lucky to live about 10 minutes from Wegman’s, so I have plenty of opportunity. It’s just so damned expensive.
Today for breakfast I had a natural yogurt (no refined sugar, no hormones in the milk) – Lavender Plum Honey flavor (SO intriguing, I just had to buy it) – with tons of fresh, plump blueberries. It was fabulous, and I felt so good afterward. I’d like to keep eating this way. But I have a weakness for salty snacks, and Coke.
