Ok, so my exam period put a bit of a stunt on this one’s progress, but I am doing yoga every day now that I’m free and it’s coming along quite slowly, but that’s hardly surprising to me. It’s been over a fortnight since I’ve done proper yoga (or any exercise for that matter), so I’m bound to be as rigid as a plank. Little stretches every day and I’ll be right as rain again.

I’m starting from scratch sometimes. I really should have written this yesterday, but I opted for bed after my 45 minute yoga workout. Some poses weren’t so bad, but I tried the shoulderstand cycle – something I haven’t done in months – and it was brutally sore, in a good way, I suppose. I realise how unfit I am in my upper body. I need to try doing asanas to target my back. I usually have bad posture anyway, and then there’s that saying in yoga, “You’re as young as your spine”.
I really need to work out some kind of routine.
I missed doing a session yesterday as I came home late and generally tired and feeling like my arms and legs weighed a tonne each. I’ll make up for it tonight, though. I need to do more. Way more. I will not give this one up!
Another 40 minutes of yoga today, and I have to say it wasn’t easy. I remember something like this happening the first time I started yoga. The first few weeks can be brutal on the hamstrings, but afterwards the aches and pains disappear and you feel great. I know I’m starting again, so I thought for today why not focus on trying to perform asanas that would open the root chakra. Thankfully, they’re easy enough: surya namaskar, the triangle, pigeon, tortoise, lizard and downward dog pose. The pains should go away soon. Hopefully. Just have to get back in the game and I’ll enjoy it again in no time.
I started my old yoga routine. Admittedly, it was very basic: a half hour of various standing poses, with some shoulder stand and plough asanas. I was quite surprised to find it wasn’t as easy to do the plough. A year ago I would have been able for it no problem, but I had to put in a lot of effort this time. Oh well, I’ve started at least. Maybe this time it shouldn’t take me as long to build up stamina and greater flexibility.
I used to do yoga all the time. In my spare time, and even when I hadn’t spare time, I’d make time for it. I was a little hooked onto it the moment I discovered it, and my physique and overall health was much better for it. But I miss it a lot now, because I’ve somewhat lost the zeal that comes with trying out something new. Plus there are asanas I have grown out of doing, so I find them difficult to get back into – even basic things like balancing. They’ve deteriorated a little, so definitely I want to do this again.
