In early December, I started going back to the gym. And since then, I’ve really kept at it. I go a minimum of three times per week, and I usually try to make it four or five. I spend almost all my time on the tread mill, my ultimate goal being to run 3.1 mi (5K) straight through. I never make it all the way (the farthest I’ve gotten in one shot is 2.75 mi); I always have to slow down and walk a quarter mile, then I finish the rest. The whole thing takes me about 36 min, but I want to get a better time than that before I try an actual race with my family. After all, I’m running on a perfectly flat surface. But I am making progress.

On Thursday, for the first time ever, I ran 5k on the treadmill. My knees were killing me the next day, but they feel fine now. I might try again today.

Apart from my girlfriend, I’m the only person in my immediate family who hasn’t done this. I can do it. I’d want to give it a good shot on a treadmill first. Which, of course, plays into my other goal: get back to the gym.
