Another of Toni Morrison’s books join my growing list – Paradise. It may just be my favorite Morrison so far. I got lucky with this one. Purchased my nice hardbound copy at a discount book stall and if you can believe it, inserted in the jacket was an autographed book plate printed by the publishing company. Arundhati Roy’s God of Small Things is another addition. It is such a precious and intimate read.
Picked up a book called Straight Man by Richard Russo, because the first two pages really tickled my funny bone. Each time I read it gets me laughing. I could never play the role of Henry Devereaux, but I root and sympathize.
Books lined up -> Midnight’s Children by Rushdie and The Effect of Living Backwards by Julavits

So I logged onto my lonely live journal (if you have an account drop by dizzyjaney.livejournal.com) and started the list of my favorite books. There was no real criteria, instead I went by gut feel. In the end, the list came up to 31 books. I won’t chuck this project up to the ‘I’m done’ pile just yet. There’s this feeling you get when you’re about to leave for a long vacation and you know for sure you’re forgetting something crazy important.
I’ve condensed the list to my top fifteen (again by gut feel)
1. The Once and Future King by TH White
2. The Eyre Affair by Jasper Fforde
3. How the Garcia Girls Lost Their Accents by Julia Alvarez
4. Middlesex by Jeffrey Eugenides
5. The Birth of Venus by Sarah Dunant
6. Ark Baby by Liz Jensen
7. White Teeth by Zadie Smith
8. The Feast of All Saints by Anne Rice
9. The Fountainhead by Ayn Rand
10. The World According to Garp by John Irving
11. The Sacred and Profane Love Machine by Iris Murdoch
12. The Solitaire Mystery by Jostein Gaarder
13. Harry Potter 1-4 by JK Rowling
14. Fried Green Tomatoes at the Whistlestop Cafe by Fannie Flagg
15. Jazz by Toni Morrison
Also, I’m starting to think that maybe livejounal isn’t the best place for my blog. Hm…
