1. I was little(about 10 years old) alot of the kids were picking on me at school and said “You have Cooties”. I cried for days. Mom got a lunch bag together and filled it with newspaper to make it look full. Told me to go to school and say “Yes I DO have Cooties and I will release them on you if you don’t leave me alone”!
2.Eighth grade Graduation: All the girls were wearing beatiful white lacey dressed and there you see me in the graduation picture with the dark navy blue dotted swiss dress that my mom had made for my Easter dress. She felt so awful that we were so broke that she couldn’t buy me a special dress! Boy looking back now..It was I who had the “special dress” Love you mom!
3. My mom showed me how to do so much more with less. We played for days in cardboard boxes and prayed for someone to buy a new TV or Fridge…this was long before Ipods and Playstations
4.She taught me respect for all of God’s creatures large and small. We nursed more stray bunnies, cats and dogs with Pepto-Bismol and fed baby birds with eye droppers full of watered down cornmeal!
5. learned the value of a dollar. I earned money babysitting and used to do quite well even at $.50 an hour. I was then given the choice of helping our family keep the electricity turned on
or buy a new outfit..we always had light!
