It’s funny to read through my entries over the years. I was SOOOO sure and so excited to get my tattoo… Once upon a time. Now nearly every single person I know or meet have one or more tats. Almost like it’s a requirement for our generation. I had the chance to finally get one after all these years of waiting and decided against it. Who wants to be just like everybody else? It’s like one of my favorite Dr. Seuss books, The Starbelly Sneeches. I decided I didn’t need to get a “star on thars” in fact I’m happier being unique in my lack of ink.

My friend and I had made the pact to get our first tats together on Halloween weekend. I had everything planned… the design, location, artist, everything. Unfortunately, my friend is having some severe health issues and is awaiting word from her doctor on whether or not she will need a transplant for her lone remaining kidney. We sort figured that while she is on major meds and possibly will be getting a new kidney, getting a tattoo wouldn’t be the most logical thing to do. And it just feels wrong to go ahead and do it without her. So my Halloween plans are off. I’m thinking about rescheduling for January and do my first tat as a Happy 30th birthday present to myself.
The date is set and confirmed, so I am officially getting my tat on Halloween weekend. In preparation of this auspicious occasion, I’ve been like a woman obbsessed scouring the internet for design ideas for my tattoo. After being inspired be the work on a couple different sites, including the site of an amazing artist here on 43 things, I sat down and actually drew and even colored my own interpretation of what I want it to be. Now since I’m no artist, it’s rough at best but I love and best of all it is mine, born of my inspiration, creativity and everything that that symbol means to me. I can’t think of anything else more perfect to place on my body for life or longer, than that.
